Harley Davidson in trouble

well said---

I am a motorcyclist -- have been since i was 10--Im not a Biker (not that there is anything WRONG with that)

I rode EVERYTHING but a Harley for decades -- (3 ish to be exact before getting my Harley) -- ALWAYS wanted one -- because -- as a Native RED BLOODED Ohio youngster -- all the BAD A$$ guys at the bars etc HAD ONE --Evil Knievel--road a HARLEY --

After owning MANY brands--- and styles and models of motorcycle--- the trade off for the "cool" factor really declined in my 30's --- I dont care two shites how I "look" on the bike (I wear FULL padded armoured gear -- gloves full face helmet-- laugh if you will but I will survive the crash the unhelmeted wont----and my face is too pretty for rocks and bugs to damage it ;)

I want a bike that will get me there and back WHOLE and in one piece---EVERYTIME-- One that will allow me the torque AND speed and agility to out maneuver the soccer moms-- 16 year olds texting-- and blind retirees

There will be hate mail and arguments--- but Harley doesnt make a product that can do that--period--
the cornering is limited suspension travel a joke -- HP and acceleration (of stock what you buy on the floor DONT SHOW ME PICTURES OF NHRA HARLEYS BURNING NITRO_)---is LACKING at best--they are overweight and under pwered and under braked-- My 92 Sportster had parts designed from the 60's (before I was BORN) on it-- and HARLEY were PROUD of that "heritage" used it in MARKETING --- that isnt heritage that is cheap and lazy engineering ---

I love the look of a Harley(they are rolling art) and gorgeous to look at
the mega long stretched choppers are COOL -- like James Dean -- and Marlon Brando-- but I dont want to ride them either---

-- I even like the STOCK potato potato sound (not the open pipe ignorance)
AND FOR THE RECORD I dont like the WASP stinker IN A MEGAPHONE sound of the RICE ROCKETS EITHER -- STUPID --- your on a city street not Daytona Raceway! Just wear a sign that says IM A DOUCHE SQUID that cant RIDE! we would all be happier---

Also for a time the BUY AMERICAN mantra was well -- Harley ---- but now---Hondas are made in Ohio---Victories were being made in Iowa--Kawasaki in Lincoln Nebraska---(research how many parts on that new Harley AIN'T FROM AMERICA NO MORE---) its just not the same --your SUPPORTING American jobs buying most any of them now--in one way or another--

In my mind here is a simple easy PICTORIAL comparison

MODERN Motorcycle --Honda-- Kawi-Suzuki-Triumph-Ducati---Moto Guzzi-- and on and on and on---

The V-rod (though awesome and I so wanted one when they came out) has been discontinued-------because Harley --- is LOCKED in a DEATH BATTLE tied to that 45 degree twin "sound" they cant let go -- but is not efficient and antiquated--

Apart from the said changes there were also accompanying changes in the engine and also in its development. This motorcycle had a V-twin engine. This engine was even co-developed with Porche Company. Having said that, this became the first overhead cam along with Harley's liquid-cooled engine which was set to be made for mass-market production. When considering the cylinders of the V-twin it was seemed to be placed at a 60-degree angle which is different as the other models usually saw a 45-degree angle which helped in producing the typical Harley sound.
Is The Harley Davidson V Rod Discontinued?

Harley--- much Like Gibson is fighting ---- to stay alive because they cant manufacture heritage and modern function together in one item------does FORD still make a Model "T" --- nope
59 Lesters
and Panheads are history
honored revered history -- but not FUNCTIONAL in modern day ......

Harley will run out of options with the 45 degree V twin -- you can only bleed so much from 100 year old tech....and they have certainly done an AMAZING job of it

nothing but to many its NOT a "Harley"
1. not 45 degree v twin -- dont sound like a potato potato
2 wasnt made by Harley-- was designed by Porsche was also the first water cooled harley (bane of the air cooled purists)

I THINK IT S GREAT -- I really wanted one when they were released--
the purest dont like them -- i remember when they came out -- die hards bitched about the water cooling -- and the looks --

To guys like you and me, Adrian. We who liked bikes from grade school on, will ride anything with wheels and call it fun. Heck I even ride things with 4 legs and enjoy it. I have ridden Honda Z 50's, Honda XR 75's, Benelli Mini bikes, CR 125, Rm 125, Yz 125, 250, Kx 250, 500, Honda NightHawk S 700, BSA, Harley Nighttrain, Harley Superglide...

We rode around Seattle in Sept after our Cruise to Alaska. It was chilly and rainy but we got to see Puget Sound and all manner of cool scenery.

Did you do the Inner Passage Cruise to Alaska????????
Skagway
and Prince Rupert
and all them places?

One thing about Motorcycles and guitars. You can't keep building the same thing year after year. There has to be innovation, things have to progress . There must be improvements. Harley and Gibson have been living in the past, its time to be into the future. If it wasn't for innovation we would still be without the wheel. If things stay stagnant it dies.

We went to Ketchikan, Juneau Skagway, Train ride to the Yukon, Bus ride from BC Canada back to Alaska, and Glacier bay and then on back to Seattle. Can't remember the exact order of the Glacier Bay, Train ride and Bus Trip portion. We were also supposed to go to Vancouver Island but our boat had a mechanical issue that required going slower so we lost that day stop off our cruise.
