GOT GAS--talk me dddown

Basically what I was going to say. The K-50 is a fun diversion, but it's just a toy compared to my Mini-Rec or Mark 5:25 even at extremely low volume. Can't beat the price, and you gotta factor that in as the Mesas cost 5X/7X more plus you need a cab, but I find the Mini-Rec to be a lot more satisfying to play even at conversation/bedroom volume. The Mark likes a bit more juice but still better at slightly higher "living room" volumes, plus you get the CabClone for using headphones. Of course at high volume and for jamming and gigging the Mesas are truly in their element and can't be touched. I would not try an actual gig with the K-50, it falls apart at high volume.

Now that I've lived with the Katana for a while I find myself using it less and less. It's been delegated to something to use on the patio or as a super quick grab-and-go for unplanned jams. Tubes still rule.

I agree with everything stated here.

But Adrian still lusts for a Marshall.

Adrian, in the long run you will save yourself a lot of scratch just buying a DSL now. You'll end up with one anyway eventually (you know you will) so bypass the "starter" amps and get the real thing. Just my opinion.

It might be out of your comfort zone price wise, but how about a used DSL40? This is the least expensive one I found on Reverb.com, and in mint condition:
Marshall DSL40C 2015 | Josh's Gear

That's a great price. I hear they are discontinuing the DSL-40's so I bet there will be deals on new ones also.

If the -40 is too much power, I have seen -15 heads and -5 combos for $300-$350. Twice the tone of a modeler for only 50% more ducats.

I'm waiting on those discontinuation sales myself.
I too would like to add a DSL 40C to the stable.
Why one may ask? Why not I would say.
Just like I tell the wife.:D

It they had a head version of the 40 I would own one. If the prices are low enough I would consider getting one and converting to a head box. If the 15 had an effects loop I would own one (that one I may get anyway, its the perfect amount of power).

I too have been looking at the 15 combo as well, especially with the creamback speaker.
With the 7 watt and 15 watt settings it does sound like a perfect candidate.

The 40 has the 20 watt / 40 watt switch, a little more power than I need, but better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Yup, that power range is perfect for my needs these days. For a gig 15-25 watts is more than enough through a 4x12 and having the option of dropping the power down for jamming or playing at home is a real bonus. I have cabs, so I would prefer the head, but I haven't pulled the trigger because of the lack of an effects loop. I know the combo has reverb but I don't use reverb so don't care about that.

It's still pretty balls out at 20 watts because of the big bottles. But, I tend to leave my Mesa's set to 25 watts even at real low volume so maybe it would work? I'd love to have one.

If I get a "Model" of the Marshall Plexi with a full stack cabinet (not the real thing --hell it wouldn't even FIT IN THE ROOM) that is not EXACT but close-----does it REEEEAALLY matter???

Won't EVEN be close.

Marshall 5005 Lead 12 Combo Amp <---clicky

Or DSL5C.

The used Yamaha THR cited previously.

You can get used 2266 Vintage Modern combos for well under a grand, close to $500 if you shop hard. They do low volume and have real classic Marshall tone.

Turn you Mustang to the 90's Metal channel, turn off all of the FX, roll your guitar volume down to about "3". That should be better tone than you will get out of a CODE. Or go to the 60's British, dial gain to taste. Stick a tube screamer (or your favorite boost) in front of the amp, tone knob neutral (9 o'clock on a TS), gain/drive low (9 o'clock on a TS), volume just above unity. Better tone than you will get out of a CODE.

Buy a classic Fender Champ < $500. Stick a cool fuzz and a TS in front. Great classic tone, better than any Marshall this side of a real plexi or JTM45.

Buy a used Silvertone 1482 < $500. Get all of the classic tone you could ever want, best sounding tremolo/vibrato EVER! Stick a cool fuzz and a TS in front. Great classic tone, better than any Marshall this side of a real plexi or JTM45.

What mdubya said!
Or....put some of the above mentioned pedals in front of your Panama, and rejoice in the splendor....I can't believe I just said that...

Or....DO IT!!!

Too much $$$$.
We're talking about a Ferengi here that thinks anything over $100 is wasteful.
Tone on the cheap. That's why the Code series appeals to him.
His thinking is who can model Marshall tone better than Marshall.

Run the headphones out into the front of the Mustang.

mdubya gear philosophy on purchasing a Silvertone or Champ; you aren't actually spending any money because you will get back what you paid if you ever sell either. It is a literal piggy bank.

Buying a CODE is a fast track to turning $200 into $50.

The MS2, above is a forever amp. (y)

I agree completely with everything that you've said.
But I also know Adrian the Ferengi and his thrifty ways quite well.
And to be fair, he has looked at a similar type of doctored up mini Marshall.
I'm sure he'll be arriving in here shortly.

You are already there then. (y)

I agree, you are in the Lead 12 ballpark with the ValveState.

I would be real interested in your review of the CODE if you pop for it.
