FRIDAY NIGHT RIFFS

I havent submitted anything in a while. The tank is a little dry lately.

I've been messing around with mic placement on the new 212 I have. Cant seem to find that sweet spot. What I am hearing doesnt translate to what I capture.
Let me know what you guys think, any suggestions would help.

Here is my 50th riff submission. Happy 50th!!
It’s a cool riff and I get what you mean by the sweet spot. I seem to have found it for myself, but I am also only using the iPhone.
Try what I did last night, and cut your gain down some. With the mic about 2’ away from the cab..
And let me know how it goes..

I had the mic about 3 or 4 inches away from the edge of one of the cones.
I’ll try it out, guess it will take some time.

I’ve been at this most of the day and it’s starting the sound all the same to me.
The riff I’m playing isn’t important.
Just tell me how it sounds to you guys.
There was no editing involved.
Just need some feedback.
Is it too harsh, too much high or low end, etc..

Sounds pretty heavy to me my friend, not to much highs, very crunchy, and not over ridden with bass.
What channel are you using, an what amp ?

This sounds better than what you sent me earlier. For my taste, I'd want more bottom end/cab thump in there. But, that's my taste, not necessarily anyone else's.

Good “punk rock” tone…typical SM57 a bit “on the cone” sound. About a half inch closer to the grill will bring some proximity effect lows in, and keep the high mid crunch. Rotation of the boom arm in a clockwise direction(viewed from the mic clip end) will bring in some lows too…not too much rotation though…like 3° to 5°.
Sounds pretty good though….a track like that will sit well with a bass, and drums.

Thanks Don.
I’ll pick it up again tomorrow. I think I’m just about there. I will definitely try your suggestions out.
