DOC’s Studio Build…

Gonna finish the second studio vent box today and install the remaining safe and sound insulation on the big wall. Only 3 thing lef to do before drywall:

Build a U shaped box around the ceiling HVAC duct going across the room and stuff it with safe and sound.

Install the mass loaded vinyl, isolation clips and hat channel on the ceiling.

Install the second door, such that there’s back to back doors for sound isolation.

Finished the second snaked duct/vent and finished off sound proofing the big wall today. Those mouse holes at the bottom of the wall are for access to 10ft 3 inch ABS pipes on the floor behind the big wall. I can snake cables through them across the whole wall length. Also, those holes access 3 inch ABS pipes that run under the floor to the other side of the room (3 pipes). The plan is to have as few as possible cables on the floor.

Another 2 days of good progress. Built the frame around the HVAC that goes across the ceiling and supplies the living room above. This is the rooms Achilles heel, if I don’t get this right sound will bleed into the living and almost the rest of the house.

After building the frame, I stuffed it Rockwool Safe and Sound acoustic insulation. Then came the bottom cover and all the joints taped. Next was installing the Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV), it’s that gray mat like material. The stuff weighs 1 lb per sq ft. Then all those joints were taped with vinyl tape.
Next was screwing in the isolation clips and snapping in the hat channel.

Only 2 tasks left before I can call in a contractor to do the drywall. The ceiling has to get the MLV, isolation clips and hat channel. Second is installing the inner door.

The room is going to take 50 sheets of 4x12 5/8” drywall, each weighing 105 lbs. That’s over 5,000 pounds of drywall the contractor is going to have to carry down the stairs. That itself might take 2 days!

Don you sir are doing a top notch job.
The only recording studio that I have ever been a part of, was done in a very similar fashion. Going to be a great place for creating music my friend.
Cheers
Mitch

And on one of those Karma events, the wife and I were at Home Depot on Friday for misc things. She was looking at some paint, so I was looking too, thinking what color should I paint the studio?

As I perused through some colors, I got to orange, and Karma be had, look at the name of that color sample! My 2010 Camaro GM color name is IOM, Inferno Orange Metallic  . I thought, this just has to happen. I bought 4 gallons.:celebrate2:
