Birds Incoming!!

OK, mates, I am in need of a pep talk and a healty dose of pointers. My dad gave me this air gun, for which I bought air filters\water traps for the gun and the compressor (begining and end of the air line). I am considering sparying poly for this project with this baby. What say you all. Can I pull it off? Any advice?

Are you using a spray can or a gun?
I want to use the gun pictured above. That is mine. I have a 21 gallon, 150 psi compressor with water traps on each side of the line. I have the same Minwax poly you used. Did you cut it with anything? What is your mix? Any advice for setting up a spray area?

Sorry. Missed the post about the gun.
Tips... I would recommend a small orfice nozzle and low pressure (25-35psi). Do a test spray with the fluid needle opened slightly to get a "fog coat" Then do a test with the needle opened up more. It's really kind of a feel thing and every product you spray will have a different viscosity so the pressures I suggested may vary.

I will try to source out a good YouTube video for you when I get home.
When spraying keep the gun 8 or so inches away from the part and spray in slow steady passes overlapping each pass by 1/2 your fan width.

Do not arc! Spray straight on for the entire pass don't sprays your pass curves (arcs). Maintain the same distance from your part.

Sorry if this sounds confusing or daunting it isn't .I'm just not a good teacher . I'll look on YouTube in a bit.

I really like the line as as it is easy to spray. It self levels nicely but being a top coat and not a high build sealer it takes a lot of coats on porous wood to get the pores filled in. I put a full tin on my build it took me about a week and a half.

Spray a fog coat (Looks coarse and grainy), let that set up for a few minutes then spray a wet coat. After about 45 minutes you can put another wet coat on. Do that until you are tired.

The next day , lightly sand with 320 or 400 grit to remove any rough spots and to scratch the poly. That way you get a good "mechanical " bond with your next coats.

Repeat until you are happy with the thickness.

That said all I can recommend for a spray are is keep it as dust free and as well ventilated as possible. That stuff can be stinky while it cures.

Good luck Sir! I'm sure you will do fine!

Thanks! Did you cut the Minwax with thinners at all?
