Best production period for Gibson ever????

Lacquer is the worst possible finish for a guitar.

There's a point we'll never agree on. I won't even consider the purchase of a guitar that doesn't have a lacquer finish at this point, after too many bad experiences with guitars dipped in poly/plastic/whatever. Nothing feels or wears better, and I'd rather wear the finish off the back of a neck than feel the cold embrace of Tupperwear when I play.

I have never liked lacquer, and that comes form working with in in vehicle restoration. On guitars, I like the long wear and smoothness of poly. lacquer gets sticky. I just could never warm up to it, but everyone's different of course...

One quick wipe of Ronsonol and no mo sticky! I just really cannot stand the way poly finishes feel, like the guitar isn't even made of wood.

Hmmmm....i have always loved those deep, wet looking finishes, maybe because of my background in painting automobiles???

On my black Faux Paul, i built up a couple of cans of U-Pol and let it sit for 2 weeks. It sanded/polished out and looked great and it has held up well under daily usage...

Horses for courses I guess. I've always felt nitro has a depth to the color and an intensity in the sunlight that poly finishes can't come close to. In particular as they age.

I still remember the first LPC i ever saw and i vowed to have one like it someday.

Something about this guitar just grabs me.

I love the big inlays, the witch hats and the gold finish against that dripping-wet black urethane.

I have to admit, i love shiny things...
