Interesting. My buddy's 1978 Alpine White LP Custom is as nice as any other LP I have played. Heavy bugger of a thjng too. The guitars in this article truly are something to behold.menga: Gibson’s “Norlin era” electric guitars

naw.................................you like saying VOLUTES .....come on say it and tell me it doesnt FEEL GOOD to say VOlutES
thats a well loved neck
I wouldnt care what year or how vintage a guitar is around here id beat the crap out of it. What there for aint it ?
Lacquer is the worst possible finish for a guitar.
There's a point we'll never agree on. I won't even consider the purchase of a guitar that doesn't have a lacquer finish at this point, after too many bad experiences with guitars dipped in poly/plastic/whatever. Nothing feels or wears better, and I'd rather wear the finish off the back of a neck than feel the cold embrace of Tupperwear when I play.
I have never liked lacquer, and that comes form working with in in vehicle restoration. On guitars, I like the long wear and smoothness of poly. lacquer gets sticky. I just could never warm up to it, but everyone's different of course...
One quick wipe of Ronsonol and no mo sticky! I just really cannot stand the way poly finishes feel, like the guitar isn't even made of wood.
Hmmmm....i have always loved those deep, wet looking finishes, maybe because of my background in painting automobiles???
On my black Faux Paul, i built up a couple of cans of U-Pol and let it sit for 2 weeks. It sanded/polished out and looked great and it has held up well under daily usage...
