Another NSGD!

I am going to try to resist taking it all apart until I have found a suitable Vibrola.
I passed on a take-off Maestro from a Derek Trucks SG but I hadn't bought this yet and didn't want to have the vibrato and no guitar to put it on!
Does anyone know where I can find a Gibson OEM Maestro Vibrato that won't cost me my first born son? (Don't tell him I am considering trading him!)
Otherwise, there are a multitude of generic Maestro wannabes available. I really want the long version, not the shorty.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Really like this Epi SG of yours. And because I'm so bored, and if were me, I say: Strip it, grain fill it, refinish with same color, and seal it off with Tru-Oil and polish it to a semi-gloss sheen...

Not a bad idea Sysco. If anything, though, I would probably go for a darker vintage cherry colour. More like the colour of the Angus Young signature SG.
We’ll have to see, but definitely worth considering!

There may be something on the side of the cases but definitely no identifying markings on the backs.

Ya and it looks like the neck angle is right and the strings line up on the fretboard. Damn Epis anyhow. Very nice guitar,no vaneer on that one. I dont get that vaneer stuff on newer Epis.is the wood they use that ugly.

And check out the TOM bridge,thats not your normal Epi junk hardware. Looks like Gibson stuff. No big metric posts on it. Hummmm. Interesting beast. It looks like a good one.

Allegedly Fuji Gen Gakki was using Gibson USA parts when assembling these. I will have a better idea if this is true when I get the bridge and tailpiece off. I will especially have a look at the casting marks on the underside of the stop tailpiece.

Yes. They seem to use a different style of truss rod than the USA models. I am also looking forward to seeing the full neck joint when the neck p'up comes out. I will be sure to post pics.

Do it! An easy lacquer overspray.
No grain filling is even needed.
Just use caution while wetsanding. It's real easy to blow thru the color.
Then you have to hide the booboo with a sharpie marker of the same color and re spray everything.
I did it to two different SG's and they came out as glossy as a factory job.

Hack, what lacquer did you use? Here in Canada we have a hard time getting finishing supplies as US suppliers will not ship it by air or by ground across the border if it is flammable. I will have to source it here.

I've used Ace Hardware brand clear lacquer with great results. Wetsands easy & polishes to a nice gloss. Sets as hard as a factory finish.
But haven't seen it in a year or so.

Also Krylon clear gloss, which I believe to be an acrylic lacquer. Hit or miss results.
By itself it's fine, but over another finish, even Krylon brand , I've had problems.

Deft is one that I'm on the fence about. It lays down a gorgeous finish, sands easily, but is just too darn soft for the handling a guitar gets.

Thanks for your information. I will hunt around and see what I can find. It'll probably be a while as all non-essential services are shutdown up here in the Land of Snow and Dog Sleds!
