Announcing... RiffMasters!

i LOVE it!

After a long period of sitting on the doorstep of the Shaolin Monastery in all kinds of weather our heroine is finally admitted
inside, but instead of beginning her training she is sent to the kitchen to cook and clean.
Although this causes bitter tears at first, she soon takes the opportunity to watch as the monks train and begins to learn the
movements on her own. Before too long, she becomes proficient in the basics, but when she is discovered she fears that she
will be dismissed or at least severely disciplined.

Instead, one of the masters takes charge of her training ...

NOTES: i did think that the backing track was, although super funky, a bit repetitive.
There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that, it's a funk thang after all, but i thought i might be able to create some variations
through harmonic substitutions and chordal movement.
On top of the backer i added the first track of rhythm guitar (panned left a bit) and then taking a page out of the gospel according
to James (Brown) i recorded a second interlocking guitar part.
i also used Nile Rodgers' right hand technique to emphasise certain notes in the chords, but i never played any single notes.
Recording was with 'Nat', my homebuilt T-type with a no-name neck 'staple' P90 and a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster bridge
pickup, into my HX Stomp and RC-3 looper and from there into a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface connected to a mac running Logic.
i added eq and compression to each guitar part individually in the DAW.

I suspected I’d wake up and you’d have your take complete! :D

I’m going to refrain from listening as I don’t want be influenced but I’m sure you nailed it.

I’m not very comfortable with these “headhunting” contests; particularly with someone I respect so much. I’ll just do my best and that’s all I can do. I should be able to get a take done today.

Sorry guys. I’m not particularly good at smack talk. :ROFLMAO:

that was very cool dude(ette)? I dig the neo soul vibe you added to it without sacrificing the driving funk groove. Some of it was similar to what I was hearing in my head when I first heard the backing track, so I guess back to the drawing board for me lol. great job!

@frostyjr2 cooly pulls out her trusty old flintlock tele and blasts a groovy wet wad of airy jazz-tinged funk in Mouse' general direction. Unfortunately, being her opponent is a mouse, it makes for a rather small target, though a direct hit would surely end him forever.

Once the smoke from all that black powder clears, we see if Mouse will be able manage a rebuttal. Then we shall see if ninja skills are really up to all the hype.

I'm really happy I didn't listen to this before I recorded or I'd likely have tapped out lol. Brilliant work and a sophistication I can only dream of my Sensai! :)

All i can say is that i feel exactly the same way ... it's like the duel between Ellen and Cort in 'The Quick And The Dead'.
There's no way that they ever wanted to have that contest, but rules is rules, so we just have to do our best and be happy.
i'm going to listen to yours now.
EDIT: that is some sweet old school ish right there, complete with wah wah type stuffs!
Getting your Curtis Mayfield leathers and suedes on, and some wicked platform boots too!
Yeah, that definitely grooves, my friend!!!
i think it's interesting how what we each did changes the vibe of the backing track so much, with yours being so on top of the beat
it just makes you want to dance, while mine is so much more laid back in an 'after hours chill / my gummy just kicked in' kind of way.

If I were to say, find out via PM, any visual evidence of naked Dueling from either contender,
it might colour my vote.
i know for a fact that Mouse exposes at least his knees on a fairly regular basis, LOL.
As for what i may be disposed to revealing of myself ... no comment.
Let's just say that, unlike some youtubers, i refuse to take the low road.
