Announcing... RiffMasters!

I agree... also finding movie theme more enriching than cover song. Will note this for round 8.

I’m just happy to be here, but I think the 80s #1 was a good choice for the main event. Mainly since it is something that’s being voted on and it sort of levels the playing field a bit. Everyone can vote on their favorite apple so to speak.
The Wild West is fun because, as shown so far, there are many different ways to come up with a super cool track. It’s full of apples and oranges

The Digitech Whammy Pedal got a lot of use this round. Had to buy XLR to ¼" cables to hook a mic up through it. Couldn't find the ones I KNOW I have. (There's NO WAY I've been recording since the 80s and don't have a single flippin' XLR to ¼")
I've spent more money on equipment and instruments since all this started than I have in the last 30yrs. My wallet does not thank you. At least I'M havin' fun.

Going out on limb, this choice might not seem very risky but it is a huge challenge to me to recreate some ground breaking technology that's 44 years old. Now obsolete. I tried to get the intro sound and at this point I'm not even in right zip code.
Given the most recent entries it will be a task to make it presentable.

Anyone have a updated song choice list ?
"Here is the list.
@Jethro Rocker - Amanda
@TVvoodoo - Never gonna Give You Up

@ibmorjamn - Miami Vice Theme by Jan Hammer

Been a real busy few days here behind the scenes at the voodoo lounge

Delayed comment on brother @Mouse and his cover of Time After Time which
will be going up for the community vote on the 24th. Our strat-talk migrants have
yet to experience that, but there is a possibility it might get interesting.

Anyway, it was pretty much yes, as he said, a straight up cover. Can't fault that.
It did hit #1, it's beautiful song. Funny story... it showed up twice in my life suddenly.
Last night my wife was watching this "Bodkin" Irish murder mystery serial on Netflix
and it was a part of the soundtrack kind of out of the blue. Strange how that happens sometimes.

Anyway, it's a pretty simple part, no real tone magickry required, but requires plenty of tricky picking change-ups as far as I can see
and I saw some gentle, respectful use of the whammy bar, not outright abuse and humiliation, like some other guy we know. :pound-hand:

As far as bonus points, it may get a nod for Risk/reward, but it won't earn any booty shake points, and no genre bending
But, however it goes in the vote, it is worth a minimum 5 points just for getting it done and in the mix.

It was good and I enjoyed it. As a note to you Mr. Mouse, the original challenge gave you all kinds of leeway to take it in any
direction you wished, but sometimes, we just don't want add bacon bits and banana peppers to our ice cream when plain
old ice cream is all you really need. But don't let that hold you back, sometimes it's been proven so far, that taking it a
bit "Extra" can be real good for the voting points, and twisting stuff into new forms is very much the RiffMaster spirit.

Here is my Wild WIld West Submission.
I dont think it meets the new bar height set by the latest entries. But it will have to do.
Nice! Really fits the video amd the theme well!!
Sounds great!
OK, here's my Top of the Pops 80s entry. As mentioned this is a straight cover so no creativity point for me. For those who don't know, I do a lot of video covers on my own. This was a good way to select one that I might not have ordinarily done. I love playing outside of my favorite genre (metal) and love playing pop music. Personally I really like this song and there was some nice subtle guitar parts in this one. Just be thankful that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun didn't hit #1 or I'd have chose that one. :ROFLMAO:

Time After Time - Cindi Lauper

Good entry! Nice guitar chords, effective.
gentle, respectful use of the whammy bar, not outright abuse and humiliation, like some other guy we know. :pound-hand:
Hey! I MiGHT resemble that remark?!? :p

Would.

Anyone up rn?, That might be able to explain, in the most layman's terms, how to dwnld the supplied video? I don't remember how I did it the last time but it was a LOT easier. @TVvoodoo , you messin' with me?

Not that you all (except Sapi) don't have much else to do with the 80's #1 challenge, it's time to unveil the exciting Side Hustle Challenge for Round Six. Back four or so rounds ago brother @LiveeviL2000 mentioned something about a Spaghetti Western theme, and hadda to message him saying... just you wait! It was planned-in from the very beginning.

"The hooves of your trusty steed thunder down a dusty trail to a sketchy town, named Gamblers’ Bluff.
Now, long forgotten, this frontier community is remembered as a nasty place where poker was religion and justice often swiftly served by the man with the fastest shootin’ iron."

Dial in up that tremolo, crank the reverb, and wet your whistle with a taste of whisky fellas, ‘cause we're all headed down the olde wagon trail to the Wild, Wild West!

The above four minutes plus video of your grandpappy's pappy's uncle on the run from the law comes from a time and place your family probably don't want much to talk about. But, this here re-enactment of a portion of your dark family legacy desperately needs some dramatic cowboy movie music to make it complete.

In this challenge, RiffMasters get to create a Spaghetti Western style music bed that'll make Ennio Morricone proud!
RiffBastards can Earn four points by adding a suitably dramatic background bed that puts us into the movie and helps carry the awesome scenery and trail-poundin' action of a man on the run from the long arm of the law.

Remember, this don't need be any 3-chord wonder. Spaghetti western movie theme can be very cool, very experimental.
Do what you feel seems right. No judging. Just you, the video and the music combined in an inspired, creative manner.

Bonus points available:
Add creative sound effects, or stuff that ain’t plain old guitar music = 1pt. (voice, sound fx, singing, eagles, rattlers, whips whatever!)
Put it all together your ownself, using the same supplied footage so I don’t have to do it for you = 1pt.

Friday June 19th is your deadline if you need ME to edit the music to the video and upload
Monday June 24th is your deadline to provide us all a link to the completed video online in the RFM thread.

No RiffMasters Main Event Challenge is mandatory. Anyone can drop in at any time, and you should!
The goal is to have fun, challenge yourself, and share the creativity.

Below is the link to download the video so you may download and edit all by your ownself...
