Announcing... RiffMasters!

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: How does this whole Duel thing work anyway? You just randomly pick ppl and pit them against one another? Or was I actually challenged?
The people with the lowest points at the beginning of the round go against each other in a duel. Win or lose, you get a point boost. It's a catch up mechanic.

There is HUGE dif if something is copied off tab or made original from scratch

no way you can judge original music other than by personal taste. Forums tend to be "pack mentality" & that what usually ruins them.
certain amps -guitars ect even music taste.

This place is dif pretty much & be nice to stay that way.

I wondered if it was cause set to private....
I first had it set to private, then I tried it the other ways and renaming the file (it was named Blitzkrieg Bob), and re-rendering it from Reaper with a different file name.
I guess it is the luck of the draw.

It is a simple song structure.
But it is challenging for me to play through with consistency at my skill level.
I'm a 9 year beginner / intermediate player.

It was played with full bar chords on a Tele bridge pickup. I could not keep pace with all down picking as what I understand Johnny Ramone did.
So, I had to use alternate picking.

@jtcnj I agree on the assessment. Like anything, trash talk is on a spectrum. His multiple posts and words moved the needle towards the rage side, not good natured chummy ribbing. Don't matter how many happy face emojis are added later.

He has a point in comparing the two selections, the time and effort put in. This is why I ask we judge the work, not the worker. But I also noted early and often song choice is also super important. A piece with a vulgar title, even in the punk vein, no matter how genius may not not endear everyone.

As was noted, the "low effort" mix made the F-U lyrics practically unintelligible for better or worse. I wonder if Mr. Ku even had a hand in that. We don't know. But I do know he did make extra effort for his submission, and it was original material, which was mainly why it earned my vote.

This is a perfect opportunity to again reinforce this is supposed to be a community building event with musical camaraderie the key. The points system should be regarded as secondary, only to bring a little drama, which, as we see it certainly does.

I expect some emotional content other than the music. That is how we get to know each other better.

Remember: whenever you feel the awful sting of butthurtedness, you are enjoying life's best possible moments for personal character building and winning the respect of others.

Post your words accordingly.

Soundcloud keeps removing my cover song mp3 file for copyright.
I tried renaming it and doing another render from Reaper, but no dice.
I wonder how all these fools can do so many covers on youtube and not get one flag. I got nailed by soundcloud also. I tried to protest. It pissed me off. I was playing the song that was recorded (copywrite) trying to play along to it.

I deleted my post. Not my game, nor am I in it, so you guys decide.

:ROFLMAO:

@Sapient outside votes are welcome, actually kind of necessary in my opinon. Opportunity for more objectivity. Please continue watching, listening and voting in the future

I'm building a short list, (real short right now actually), upon which I am adding what are
in my personal opinion going to be the "Best Of" resulting from this 2024 RiffMasters event.

I'm hoping to create my own little compilation of these cool works for my own listening enjoyment.
Don't sue! Upon that list so far is:
1. Long Live Dave Matthews by @LiveeviL2000 (find that one in the alternate takes thread, not an actual entry)
2. F**ck You by @Ku²
3. "Down With the Folkness" by @C-Grin

My picks will have absolutely no bearing on the RiffMasters event at all, or how I may vote, but my two key criteria to put a piece on it are: must be original material, standout work creatively and/or polished-up enough for repeat listening value. Obviously your list/criteria may be very different from my own

I hope many others will find a way onto it over the coming months as variety IS the spice of life. Many challenges upcoming will be asking you to twist, or modify existing songs/genres, but you will find plenty of opportunity for new creative works. I'd hope everyone will try to work in that space if they feel inspired and have the know-how and tech.

I guess the big thing with good natured ribbing is that the recipient of said ribbing must see it that way above all. So as Brad listed above just choose words carefully.
I’ve been the recipient of some of that. And when I’ve…. Shall we say…. Struck back. I’ve gotten the “dude I was just joking.” Only as you say, didn’t feel like joking to me. I do just fine till I feel it’s personal. I’ve never been good at letting that roll off my shoulders.

So yep. Choose words wisely. And if unsure?? That’s why the keyboard has a delete button. Use it.

@ibmorjamn I found your punk submission. It was toward the end of the page. Post #996 here.

I'll update the scoreboard.
That one was mine not his.
