Announcing... RiffMasters!

I wish I could remember what songs I first tried to play. My memory in the beginning of playing guitar is sort of vauge.

I do remember some Mel Bay books.
I feel like I had a very short stint in reading music. I gave both of those up early.

I also played a borrowed bass for some live show and had no clue.

I had a friend in highschool. Eric was the most rock involved person I know so memory only allows me to go to that time line or my subconscious suppressed the rest.

At any rate, he is the reason I started going to concerts. He had a blonde Fender precission bass. He was also who encouraged me to play guitar, he even showed me a couple of parts to some rock songs.
That and many people from school were trying to get bands together.

I knew another guy from my neighborhood who was playing drums in school band. He never looked the part but in a short time he could play full songs by Rush or any drummer note for note in perfect meter. The most amazing thing to see he was maybe 15 but it's all he had in life. Unfortunately life eventually eluded him and his dream at a young age.
We sort of had a 2 man band. Practiced relentlessly for a couple of years.
No real band.

At that point it was not long before work and life got in the way.
I can remember Eric and I going to my first concert at the Forum in L.A. Kiss, the hottest band in the land on the "Alive" tour.
At that point I think their songs would have been prime target before but there was a Redondo Beach connection from another drummer in school. These guys were real deal. Playing party's just like EVH did and around the same time.
They played UFO covers as 3 piece. Pretty convincing. Those guys were rock addicts. Back then they jumped on a plane and flew from LAX to San Diego to see Sabbath. The guitarist "Mike Rust"
met Michael Schenker and Schenker showed him how to play Rock Bottom. He had proof. Picture.

And those guys were friends with another band going by the name Airbourne. Not sure on the spelling but that's how I met Don Dokken and Bobby Blotzer.
All of this history some how leads back to the beginning.
Wow man that is quite a walk down the lanes of memories..

That is a really great background.
But I bet if you think back. There were songs that stand out in your memory. They were probably something you enjoyed playing. Songs that gave you that “holy cow, I can play something!” feeling. Even if you muddled through it and didn’t get every note quite right. But it was close enough.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I’m having flashbacks to 3rd grade. That was one of the songs Sister Rose made me play over and over and over again!!!

NEVER bring up Ode to Joy again. That song is to me what DMB is to @Clockworkmike
So Ode To Joy is torture for you huh? I know a guy who used to love that song, but then it became torture for him too

A big shout out to @Clockworkmike , @LiveeviL2000 , @4406Pack . Thanks to you knuckleheads I've been humming "Ode to Joy" all morning. Had to turn on some Margaritaville Radio for some Jimmy Buffett to try and distract.
We do what we can to help!
We all graduated from the same academy
I graduated Summa Cum Laude!
I think @Clockworkmike was Magna Cum Laude.
And @4406Pack was Real Damn Loudy

And just to help you out.
Sing it with me.

Lift your voices to the sky”:notes:

Thanks, that helps. The tricks of the memory being selectively vague makes the past a bit blurry. That and bong water. Lol

On one hand, I felt like the 2-3 week submission period was going to be too pushy and turn a lot of fellas off.
On the other hand... sure gets dull waiting for the professional crastinators when you give 'em a longer leash!

I'm coming up with some "side quest" challenges to inject into the game for extra points, for any members who have too
much creativity, (or whatever), flowing out of them to sit back and wait for others to continue the hot Riffmasters action.
I'll add one of those the next round. Won't be for big points, but will at least offer a chance to earn another point or two, and
give a fellow something to work on, if they want.

I do understand it's gettin to be a busy season. I know a lot of you fellas are sending Xmas cards, making up completely
unlikely alibis and outright lies for your Santa letters, tree choppin', re-wrapping last years lame gifts, baking butter tarts, etc.

I have a theory only approx 15% of guitar forum members actually play guitar, might prove out in round one.

I'm in that 85%: can't play the thing lmao

I'm a 15 percenter. However the reveal is I don't practice covers so this will definitely get me out of my comfort zone.
Same here with covers, (not the 15 percenter, I'm more like a 99%). Never been much of a covers player. I customize EVERYTHING, so you can be SURE I do the same with guitar playing. I have enough originals to do a few box sets. Multi-genre though. Not just R&R.
