38 Years a Strat!!! How about you?

What a great thread!!!!!

In 1988, I auditioned for a band with a borrowed guitar. My bandmates chipped in and bought me a brand new 1987 MIJ Squire Stratocaster.

I played it for 30 years. During that time, it had at least 10 different pickup configurations.

In 2019, it became a part of @Sp8ctre 's collection...

It's shown below at a September 2019 performance in Crestline, California with a Gibson 500T/496R combination.

You can hear the 1987 Squire Stratocaster on this outtake from my recording of "Perfect Strangers." The Squire is featured on the clean rhythm parts and the tremolo dive:

I always felt very comfortable with a Stratocaster, except for the narrow, skinny necks.

I feel as though I perfected the Stratocaster with the addition of a custom made, 1-3/4" wide x 1.00" thick 'Deep V' Warmoth neck.

Based on a 1982 Fender MIJ Standard Stratocaster body from @SG John, and painted with a spray can, It's become my most favorite and most trusted guitar...

Sadly I no longer have it but in 1977 I got a new '77 Les Paul Custom that I did own for 22 years before selling. It was the guitar I learned to play on, the guitar I gigged with throughout the '80s and '90s and the guitar that set the mold for my taste in guitars to this day. Although I no longer have it I do have something from the era that has filled that void and scratched that itch...

So, I guess you could say: 44 Years a Les Paul guy

"Piece of Junk...............". to quote ZZZZZ and Egeee, Send it to me, Gball.

For my answer to the rest of you guys, I know most of you know I WISH i still had my first guitar. SO far, NO other guitar has felt, smelled and almost tasted like that BLACK and Beat LP Std I had with those T Top Pups.

Believe it or not, Bocci Ball,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, my next guitar after selling my LP in 1991 came in around 2000-2001. Sadly I sold it too, because it is a not so common color as most Strats. a 1993 Gun Metal Blue Am Std Strat I got that a friend picked specially for me at the pawn shop he worked at. $700 for it, case, and Princeton Chorus amp.

My current 2 Strats are older than the '93 but newer than yours. BTW I really like yours.
Mine are the 1989 Black with Rosewood board, and 1990 Black with Maple board which make them 31 and 32 years old. My oldest guitar ( when it was made) is my 1976 SG Standard. A beautiful guitar and not common color either, Cream white. But it is also my most expensive guitar that really put a stretch in my bank account and comfort level of spending. @ right around 2k to buy, I had lots to weigh when parting with all those dollars. I mean, I could literally buy 4-10 lower priced guitars for what that ONE SG cost me. AND if I had gotten lucky enough to find my original first LP or a virtual Twin for the same $2k, I might have liked to have had that pile of cash to spring for that deal when and if it presented itself.

Now when I want my Les Paul fix, I go to this Epi. New I got it for approx $350 from mom and pop shop in 2012. and with the Bone nut and setup I had done, plus the T Tops. it has had more than original cost of upgrades to it from how she looks here.

My first was this '68 SG that I bought in Davenport IA in 1986 I believe. It's a righty and I'm not. Played it strung backwards for a couple of years until I got a proper left handed Les Paul in 1988. My brother has it now, so it is still in the family.

Omg... that SG is beautiful. It's just white, and yet, it's gorgeous. It just made, THE list.

my next guitar after selling my LP in 1991 came in around 2000-2001. Sadly I sold it too

The thing about guitars is, buying and selling, it's part of the equation. Sometimes you know when it's rite to sell...a no doubter. But sometimes there's that little voice. And sometimes, there's mistakes.

The chase to find THAT one, that's half the fun.

I sold my first guitar, an LP copy, to my brother. Some years later I asked for it back. He had given it away. I was bummed. I wired my first pickup in that guitar. A Seymore dunkin distortion. Gone!!

What a great thread!!!!!

Thanks buddy. It is great....I tricked everyone to post awesome pics of their guitar porn. Love it all.

I've seen your guitars over the years.... some great ones. Many with a history of your growing as a musician. I know you didn't bond with it, but I loved your SG. I started counting my dollars when you put it on the market, but i couldn't pull it off. That guitar was clean.
