10,000 Mile Oil Changes:

Changed the front rotors and pads today as a preventative maintenance item....

Went back with Perfect Stop again. At 104,000 miles, i had about 1/2 of the brake
lining remaining. This is incredible brake pad life.

The only reason i changed was a very light shudder in the wheel on braking...

So, on this front brake job, i replaced the pop-in, stainless steel tabs that serve as wear points for the steel backs of the brake pads. Not all brake pads come with these, but the Perfect Stops did.

There are also large pins upon which the calipers slide as the brakes are applied. These were cleaned and relubricated with a synthetic, high-temp MOS2 grease. This is an often overlooked feature which really adds to the feel of the braking system.

Mobil one , 10,000 in the wife's Yaris.
I drive it since I have 120 mile round trip.
It gets 400 miles to the 10 gl tank.
Cruises at 75 -80. I work the 4 banger but it's at 55000 miles so about 30,000 a year.
I drove the truck on Thursday , it is not quite getting that milage. $75 in the tank got up 3/4.
King cab long bed 4 x 4.

With Mobil 1, the additive package is not as robust as with Rheinol, Motul or Total Quartz. I've used Mobil 1 and had periodic oil analysis performed on the oil.

If using Mobil 1, you would be well served to use the "Extended Performance" version. It costs about the same, but has an additive package closer to Rheinol.

Rheinol is the undisputed king of engine oils.

Mobil 1 actually offers a "European Car Formula" that is much closer to Rheinol. You can buy a 5 quart jug of either for about $29.00

The short version is, Mobil 1 Extended Performance or European Car Formula is almost as good, in terms of longevity, as Rheinol Primus.

That's about as much as I would spend but going 10,000 makes it worth it.
I don't currently own a sports car.
I might someday get the International upgraded but it's a slow tedious process.

It's a good deal considering the economic situation....

Mobil 1 is a hugely overrated oil in its basic formulations. In its 'basic' formulations, it offers little advantage over 15w40 Ritella. Remember that Mobil was sued for the performance failures of their aviation oils:

Castrol is another great deceiver. Castrol also claims their 'Syntec' is a 'full synthetic,' despite being made from group III base oils.

Our race team was offered RedLine, Amsoil and Royal Purple - for free - and after testing, we declined all of them...

AMSOIL 100% Synthetic Motor Oil - Best Premium Synthetic Oil

Widely considered to be the best synthetic oil money can buy, AMSOIL would be the #1 choice if it weren't for its high price tag and the fact that it's harder to find unless you're ordering online. AMSOIL synthetic oil can withstand extreme temperatures and holds up very well under extended drain intervals, as shown by scores of used oil sample analysis results. If you want the best and don't mind paying for it, it's the way to go

Its cool if you like it.

We saw some issues with it in several applications. When we questioned the engineering department, they were thrown off completely by our questioning and then began stammering and falling back on marketing claims.

Interestingly, the fact that no Amsoil product is API certified wasn't my deciding factor in not using their product in our engines.

Once i smell bullshot in a business deal, that company is finished as far as we were concerned.

I do the extended Mobil 1 in my Civic. My little sewing machine engine hasn’t complained yet.

Well, AMS/Oil is API rated

rotects Against Engine Wear Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil develops a strong fluid film that keeps metal surfaces separated. Its robust anti-wear additives further reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions for maximum engine life. The Sequence IVA Engine Test, which must be passed to meet the API SN PLUS specification, simulates extended periods of stop-and-go driving. For 100 hours, the test engine cycles between 50 minutes of idling and 10 minutes of elevated rpm — conditions that encourage engine wear. The camshaft is then measured for wear in 84 locations and an average score is determined. We used Signature Series 0W-20, the lightest viscosity in the line, to further increase the severity of the test. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil provided 75% more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear1 than required by the industry standard, extending the life of vital components like pistons and cams

We wouldn't use it and it was offered to us for free....

Top Engine Builder Says AMSOIL Is the Best!
Richie Zul is the "mad scientist" behind Zul Racing Engines in New Babylon, N.Y. Richie and his staff build and modify high-output racing engines for some of the world's fastest boats, including the APBA Hall-of-Famer "Fever" and several of the Eastcoast Marine boats regularly featured in AMSOIL literature. Over the past ten years, they have become famous for their expertise and, today, about 50 racing boats carry "Richie Zul Engines". Last year, Zul gained the coveted APBA (American Powerboat Assoc.) Offshore Inboard Engine Builder of the Year Award.
Zul is a devoted user and installer of AMSOIL Products, particularly AMSOIL 20W-50 Racing Oil. "The number-one reason we use AMSOIL is for its instant-lubrication ability. The Racing Oil gets to problem areas very quickly and is very light on start-up. With other oils, you get dry starts and it takes longer for the oil to reach the upper cylinders and pistons. And that's when a good deal of wear occurs. AMSOIL gets up into the cylinders and pistons faster than anything we've seen. AMSOIL stays fluid even at cold temperatures, and with a boat engine that can be important. It also gives us quick start-ups, less drag and better acceleration."
Zul builds his engines and does his own dynamometer testing with them, fine-tuning the "monsters" to perfection. These engines can propel boats to speeds of around 140 mph. He is fully aware that a superior quality lubricant makes a big difference. "These engines are run extremely hard. With AMSOIL, we can expect a 20 - 30 deg. F. temperature drop, and that means more power being used for output. I think AMSOIL is an outstanding oil, and we wouldn't use anything else."
The next time you watch a boat race, watch for the words, "Richie Zul Engines" on the boats at the finish line. Why are they consistently up front? They have a double advantage: the best engines with the best oil!
