10,000 Mile Oil Changes:

Running synthetic oil in a marine diesel is plain stupid. Chevron Delo 400 oil the V-12 CAT'S like it.

Interesting...

Caterpillar recommends their own Special Application Engine Oil in marine applications, such as the 3116 and 3126, and it is a fully synthetic motor oil, but it is not a multi grade oil. The details can be found in Caterpillar Service Bulletin #PEHP9516.

Basically, the VI (viscosity index) improvers used in multi-grade oils - whether conventional or synthetic - tend to create deposits in MUI type engine turbochargers and aftercoolers, so synthetic single grade is used in engines with a closed crankcase ventilation system to avoid this problem.

I tend to defer to the engine manufacturers recommendations...FWIW

The Rheinol Primus 5/40 is an incredible oil. I've been using it now for 7 years. I put it in my kid's and parent's 4.6 V8 Fords, in both our Honda's, in both of my 4.6 V8 Mustangs and also in the 5.4 V8 in Yellow Truck.

Before I discovered Rheinol, I was using Mobil 1 15/50 and I had good results with it. Periodic oil analytics revealed the oil was holding up well. However, when you compare the Rheinol to Mobil 1, the Rheinol is literally off the charts. It's just a better quality oil.

I changed the Mobil 1 in my Black Supercharged 2001 4.6 Mustang between 7,500 and 12,500 miles. I was rear ended and totalled-out (in the black Mustang) on the 210/I-5 connector in Sylmar on March 3, 2016.

At the time of the crash, I had 257,000 miles on the car...

I've had oil Analysis performed at both OCI's and the report revealed the oil was hiding up perfectly at 12,500 miles, with almost no detectable deterioration of VI or additives between 7,500 and 12,500 miles.

Wear metals were also extremely low in every report and I credit this to a very effective piston ring seal in the 4.6 engines (preventing hard chamber deposit migration) and a highly efficient crankcase ventilation system.

The most amazing aspect of this Rheinol is how clean it keeps the interior of an engine. Mobil 1 will tint the inside of an engine a reddish brown, but Rheinol is transparent.

TBTH, I think 5,000 miles is a good OCI (oil change interval) but with my work, I frequently passed that benchmark so often that I started going out to 7,500 or 10,000 miles between changes.

I perform oil analytics on everything, even my 1982 Honda XR500R.

I use Lucas 20/50 synthetic motorcycle oil in that, specifically formulated for the bike's wet clutch.

No electric cars for this guy . I will drive a fueled car for as long as i can. Electric is great for a golf cart which i have , but that's where i draw the line..
Electric cars are going to need pressurized liquid lubrication / cooling by oil flow.
Otherwise electric motors and transmissions will not last long enough to be practical....
Sure it can turn 10,000 RPM no problem, but the bearings don't have any oil flow to keep them cool enough. The lubrication of electric motor is "permanent," not changeable.
That I think is a major hurtle if electric cars are going to be utilized replacing fueled cars.
The fueled car has a lubrication system.
There's a reason it has a lubrication system....to keep it from wearing out.

seems other countries are FAR AHEAD of us in keeping the world green.............uhm........................

try not to inhale too many diesel fumes.... while charging your "EV" friendly vehicles kiddies ;)

Got 100,000 out of these Motorcraft spark plugs...

The old plug is Motorcraft SP547

The new plug is Motorcraft sp587x, which is an upgraded and visually different part.

It took 17 minutes to change all 8 plugs...

Here's a shot taken Friday of my front pads/rotors at 104,000 miles. These are Perfect Stop Exact Spec by Bosch Canada.

Although i am changing pads and rotors, there is no urgent need to do so.

The only place i can get Perfect Stop is through Auto Value:

Rotor is Ford Motorcraft.

Note absence of dust inside wheel.

Left Bank of the 4.6 3-Valve at 212,000 when i changed out a "ticky" rocker arm...10,000 mile oil changes with Rheinol Primus Euro 5/40 exclusively.

The Rheinol Primus Euro 5/40 exceeds Castrol Syntec and Mobil 1 in every regard.

This isnt simy my opinion, but its backed by labratory analysis, including analysis of virgin oil samples.
