NNGD...

What I have found on Gibson guitars they don't sound to good until they age for 10 years plus on a rare occasion you may find one that rings well new I did in 2005 335TD but I played
a few hundred before I found one. I was going to buy a Les Paul Custom Shop 1957 Gold Top.
I played my first 1958 Les Paul Standard it sustained for day's unplugged then the guy wouldn't sell it to me it took me a few years to get over that one.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

The way you described that SG Junior kinda justifies the price, IMO.

Based on what you write, I say run back and buy that Junior.

And a happy belated birthday to you!

This. You know you want it Mr Grumpy. Just do it. Cheers

Watch this space. I just have to pop to the bank today (I put most of my money into an untouchable savings account each month, so I cannot buy expensive guitars on a whim; I'm supposed to be saving money not spending it...).

The 2017s have come down in price a lot, but I waited for a 2016 std batwing loaded P90 which never came down in price and all sold out quickly. I suspect these juniors will do the same.

I think this is the actual guitar (because the shop said they only had one). Lots of close-ups from 5:10 in. 2.8kgs in weight, so not heavy... A bit of Fender SG crunch from 7:50. Driven through a JCM2000 at 8:38.

&, if you don't like the endless Korean talking then here's a 'real' '61 that it seems to be based on:

A Gibson Dog Ear sounds GREAT through ANYTHING---its like a cornerstone of the foundation.....of RAWK!!!! :dood::dood::dood:

BUt yet go to 11:00 in and its bluesish and clean.....rich....yummy ......

WOW--- versatility in tone from 1 lowly UNADJUSTABLE dogear................what an ODD and AMAZING thing---- must ONLY be possible in Korea .............

NOT --- :)

That is a sweet sounding guitar!

Just a thought experiment: When you set up a guitar, you adjust the pickup height to your liking, yes? When you find your preferred height, do you ever adjust it again? I'm disregarding the possibility of readjsuting if you get a new amp. Let's say the dogear pickup sounds exactly right when you play it. Does it then matter that it is not adjustable? Because you do realize that that just might happen?:D

And how would you know it was exactly right until you try the other options? Your theory implies a choice. You may like it where it is, but you will never know if it could be better. And you are also correct in saying that you cannot adjust for new variables by way of pickup height adjustment without jumping through hoops (shims)

Sometimes you just know when the sound is right.

I know I’m never going to make you change your mind, and I definitely see your point. But sometimes there just is no need for adjustment... And when the pole screws can be raised, I’d say you have an opportunity, albeit a somewhat limited one, to adjust the pickup.

Anyway, I think the Junior @Mr Grumpy absolutely HAS TO buy sounds great.

I do not have an issue with anyone who finds a great guitar and loves the sound and buys it, whether it has dog ear pickups or kitchen magnets on popsicle sticks in it. This whole debate really started when esge took one of the guitars he had, which I love(d) and had been waiting for him to send me, and altered it from an adjustable P90 pickup to a dog ear for aesthetic purposes. That, from my practical and very selfish perspective, set me off!
