New Build

What I have learned form building and look at the gut shots I posted If you ever wish to achieve the Dumble sound it's in the resistors
Brands of resistors used IRC Draloric Piher Iskra Roe Beyschlag Mepco/Electra sprague Q-line The only China parts ever used were the relay's.

You have to pass the Dumble test to even have one made then it's 2 to 5 year wait. I was in the studio in 1978 and Dumble unplugged my amp plugged me into a Dumble Beach Boy's amp
I had to rerecord that day the BB amp sucked but I passed the Dumble audition got a packet with all the models and price list and contract's that I would not let anyone open up the amp built
or sell it. At the time My Billy Zoom modified Fender amps killed that Beach Boy amp The price list was $1280.00 to $5,000.00 that was big bucks in 1978
Fast forward to now the $1280.00 amps are $85,000.00 and the $5,000.00 are $250,000.00 on the secondhand market. One concern is they were build and tuned for the buyer only
so no two are alike.

This is #102 I try to tune by builds to this amp just on the edge of out of control. Still learning something new every day been building this form of amp for 12 years.

Wow! You have attained God like status in my realm...

Three more parts orders on the way.
Then the fun starts 100 hours to wire it all then fine tuning hoping for 471 volts B+1 that is the magic voltage on a EL34 amp.

I see no reason to be jealous It's just years of study.

I will use a Dumblator in the effect's loop that way I can play at any level with out any sound degradation. Attenuators suck I own two of them they kill power tubes and transformers in the long run.

I have been doing this going on 30 years, just never had access to the Dumble boards and amps like you have. Thats all.

I do believe I am a member there, went there looking for Mesa amp info. I use the same name there as here.

Going to have to keep my eye on this build.
Like many, I've always been intrigued by the mystique of all things Dumble.

Being that they are unobtanium in the real world, my only access to them has been the music of Robben Ford, David Lindley, Stevie Ray and Larry Carlton.

This is a rare opportunity to see one being created. Thanks for sharing this build Plexi, looking forward to the process.
