Let's Talk Bass

It just arrived!! The body will need to be refinished, it looks like it had stickers on the back side of the body that stuck through the finish and black stuff, maybe burn marks. The gear for one of the tuners is gone and the strap lock screw broken off with two extra holes. This will be my new project. I'm gonna test it at Chris's shop tonight, pull off the pick guard and see what pups are in it. Definitely not Peavey pups.

Well it sounds like it got a hell of a beating ----I hope you can whip her back into shape.

This is Grant at Chris's shop. Here are some pics of the bass...

Note that the pups have been replaced with what may be fender? The pick guard was hand made, the pockets for the pups were routed out and they did a pretty good job. The finish on the back is nasty. This will need to be disassembled, sand the body down to bare wood and refinished. Note the back of the neck at the pocket where it was sanded down. The action is low and clean, no buzz at all. I played a few notes with the 3 strings and it sounds pretty good. Separate volume knobs for neck and bridge with a common tone control. I got a close up of the tuners so if anyone has a spare tuner, I could use one. Otherwise I'll end up getting a set of four and pay more for them than I paid for the whole guitar and case.

THOSE LOOK LIKE fENDER PUPS AND INERDS --- RIGHT OUTTA A jAZZ bASS.

the tuner --- you might find 1 somewhere mine have the "Elephant Ear " style not the Clovers.

seems a good platform-- bass are supposed to be rough and scarred. Clean pristine polished basses are like Harley Riding Doctors that wear CLEAN all black leathers the 2 weekends a year they ride...
POSERS

basses are tools not trophies ...... punish that thing throw it in a corner and punish it again tomorrow! lol :)

The body of the bass appears to have been refinished after they did the pickup mads. So I will be striping it down, sanding it to the bare wood and refinishing it. I ordered a new set of tuners from our sponsor MusicLily. The case is missing the padding and all that remains of it is the dried up glue trail. I think that the guitar must have lived in the case for a long time and the case padding embedded into the back of the guitar and that is what the black goo is in the pictures above.
