Major Facelift for my '02 SG Special Faded

Blimey, excellent and dedicated work there from a proper craftsmen; gonna be a great axe when it's done.

The specials are just sooooo nice; and a nice special is really really nice.

I stopped at the 10th coat of Tru-Oil, which was 6 days ago. In a couple days, I'll start final polishing and buffing. Then finish the finish with gunstock wax.

Meanwhile, while the guitar was hanging around to let the Tru-Oil dry, I cleaned up the fretboard again by dressing up the fret ends with a StewMac Fret End Dressing File exactly like this one:
The results were very nice after I followed the filing with some hardcore #0000 steel wool scrubbing and some F-One fretboard oil:

I also painted the control cavity with black conductive shielding paint... 3 coats at 1 per day:

The shielding paint came in an 8 ounce can. I can do at least 25 guitars with what's left over. I think I'll take a cue from @Goldmember, who likes to paint your Yoohoo gold, and advertise: "May I paint your cavity black?"

LIKE!!

I quoted this just so I could "like" it a 2nd time!

DONE!

Except for a custom TRC that is on order.

Final polishing, waxing, and reassembly, yesterday:

The feel of the neck and fret ends turned out amazing. My favorite result of this refinish... :dood:

About 2" southwest of the bass-side of the tailpiece, you'll notice a couple whitish specs. I was trying to insert the tailpiece stud, and twice in 5 seconds the stud slipped out of my hand... :BH:

95% of these specs is just dust passing thru:

Black shielding paint makes the components stand out more:

Me thinks, good looking family:

Really nice, Sysco.

Is it just me or do you like SGs?

I mean...I could be wrong, but I have this feeling...

I HATED my SG. HATED it. HATED the funky strap attach point on the back of the neck. After shielding it and getting GOOD pickups in it, I started using even though I HATED it. I gave music lessons with it. I played it as my primary guitar. It's lightweight proved to be very nice during marathon 6 hour rehearsals. It's near perfect intonation was another major factor. It's now my main guitar.

It's going thru the "one coat of oil per day" phase. Today will be oil-coat #6. Probably do at least 8 coats. After the final coat, I'll let the guitar's finish cure for a full week. Then some delicate final polishing, hand buffing, and gunstock wax, before all the hardware and electronics go back in.

I got a custom TRC on order, that probably won't arrive for at least a month.

I also ordered an 8 ounce can of StewMac's conductive shielding paint. That should arrive this week.

I'd REALLY like to know why no one has taught mt that hanging by a hook in the strap button hole trick!!!
