Anyone interested in another TTR community "Happening?"

I think that the justification for the use of Weird Al’s help for some submissions would be to give everyone that chooses to work with Weird Al the ability to come out with a “more complete” catalog of material.
Not everyone sings…Weird Al can sing for them.
Not everyone plays bass…Weird Al has a bass player.
Not everyone writes lyrics…Weird Al is a genius with lyrics.
Singing will always be a chore for me.
I almost got my son geared up to sing.

Brad's games here have been anything but crummy.

I don't expect you new guys to get it, really. Not having been around to see it and all. That's not your fault at all.

If y'all don't like the idea and don't wanna play, that's fine; don't. Nobody's gonna force ya.

I've participated in the games before. I won't be able to this time but I learned a lot, a few of the skills are still useful, it forced my creativity to do something new and different, ultimately it was a good thing, and it built comraderie amongst the members. It wasn't divisive, it wasn't hateful or discouraging or any of those things y'all are afraid of. Quite the contrary.

Not to mention the absolute masterful craftsmanship and effort Brad himself puts in to make it all happen. The man is a hero, to be honest.

I don't love seeing things like this get poo pooed by folks who really just generally aren't aware of, and don't fully understand.

This is starting to sound like a crummy idea.
I disagree, Jimmy. Brad is doing his best to bring about and generate possible collaborations between TTR members to write and record original material with each other on various genres of music to their own likings and preferences.

It's a great idea, but allowing AI into any mix is a non starter IMO. I've collaborated with many musicians here in the U.S., Europe, Australia and other countries, but I have NEVER collaborated with a computer to produce a tune. (n) on that!

Yeah? Explain this one to me. No more than two sentences, please.
LOL

Just don't play if you don't want to. It's not a big deal.

Maybe give Brad a chance to craft his game first. This here thread, I think, was more about taking the temperature and guaging people's thoughts on the use of AI tools to help/doom them, and whether or not he will build it into the game.

You are asking me to explain a game that hasn't yet been invented.

Brad is the worldbuilder. And he's cooking something up. I say let him cook!

I subscribe to a reddit sub regarding Suno. The diversity of users is crazy wide. From pre-teen kids to aged-out actual road musicians.
The variety of ways people use the application is also quite diverse, and there's MUCH discussion on creative ways to use it.

One dude posted yesterday, how he's uploading his unfinished moldy old DAW recordings and lyrics he lost interest in completing and is entranced by the results of Suno's finished interpretation of his bits and pieces. Like none of us here don't have a crapload of those in stock! Things fun and cool but may never see the light of day.

I played with Suno for a few weeks about a year ago found it quite empowering. I was pasting in my own lyrics to songs I'd written years ago only providing some feel and structure prompting. Songs I had crafted full chord structures and melodies for... but i could not not use those with the AI program at that time.

Since then, they have added the ability to upload your actual songs, beats, riffs or hummed melodies to guide the final creation... I have not tested those features.

OK, I'll open my kimono for a naked example...
Here is my own home-recorded production of a song (probably seven damn hours of work to record and tweak)
v.s. what Suno spit out in less than one. damn. minute. FREE.

Mine:

Suno:

As ass as it may be, I'm proud of my own recording BUT... apples to apples for a way less pain infliction on YOU fellas for repeated listening, I'd rather you hear the Suno interpretation of my lyrics, rather than my own admittedly amatuerish "sub-artistic" recording. The Suno is what I'd present for my "TTR" concept album. Both are dung, but at least one has polish enough to be easily consumable.

Now, I would place myself at about 5/10 in regards to total guitar/recording skill score in regards to the members here, being generous. A bit stronger in my writing, I think.

I'm inviting members of all skill levels to be able to participate if only for pure listenability of entries for EVERYONE.

THAT is why I suggest we be open to AI. I guarantee you'll not become addicted and sell off your gear or give up music-making. You may even learn things about song structure and production presentation.

I think of it as a toy more than a tool. I think people take it waaaay too serious.
I just want to be a kid in a musical candyshop for a while, and perhaps I'm looking for others to do it with me so I don't feel so guilty about it.

True…and the sentence count is two.
I just watched most of the last game from the sidelines. Participated in a few things. It was fun.
My imagination gets the better of me too often though, and I can never actually get anything done. I get carried away with formulating, leaving no time to actually produce.

but allowing AI into any mix is a non starter IMO.
But what does that actually mean?

If a player writes and records his own song, but uses a lyric generator to help him find a line or word that rhymes with something he wants to say, is that allowing AI into a mix?

When I used a stable diffusion app to create a fictional album cover, was that allowing AI into a mix? Mind you, it's an image, there's no sound, nothing to play, it's an image only...but technically it was AI.

And that's what I meant upthread when I asked "what do we mean when we say AI"

I feel like there's a difference between allowing a computer to compose some slop for you, and utilizing some of the modern tools to help along as you compose your own stuff.

I say this as a firm believer in actually knowing how, and being proficient at playing an actual instrument, and also being anti AI in general...

And I would just add for say a fella here like @PLX whom I invited to join in on the RiffMasters thing last year ... if I recall correct he opted out 'cause he didn't feel confident about either his singing or lyric-writing skills (maybe both), but all here can agree he rips real good, and builds some sweet riffs.

Imagine if he got on with some generated lyrics on say, micro-agressions or some-such, in a good rock vocal take. Frickin' bangers for sure.

Just sayin'
