What's on Your Workbench?

Last night at rehearsal, I noticed a small gap in my board/headstock.... I gave it a small twist to see if it was really a gap, or just what ?

I heard a small pop.... Aw crap!

So today it got the glue and clamp treatment. Hopefully I got enough in there to secure it well enough. I couldn't figure out how to get glue in there, so I just worked it in and out with a razor blade for like 10 minutes.
I could feel with the razor how far it was loose, only to the 1st fret or so. Someone must have dropped it and just popped the end part lose.
Anyhow, makeshift Luthier here.

I'm building a ECC83/12AX7 valve tester. Because I can't find an acurated display current meter I check anodes mA current with a DMM using two switch to open the circuit. The tester's meter leads cover a switch to view the anode voltages on the display. More parts are still to arrive.

Yikes! , I'm pretty sure it was just the end of the board popping loose. I bought a broken guitar one time with this same exact issue and when you twist the headstock, you can see the board lift up on each side. I barely twisted it and heard it give a little.

Hopefully this will fix it right up.

You gonna share some pics of the rest of her? How old is that thing? Yeah, sometimes the glue just dries out and gives. You condition your fret boards with anything? I've been using Kerf's Wood Cream. It's nontoxic, food grade, made for cutting boards. I use it on all my instruments. Also have 'Lavender Wood lotion' and 'lemon wood Luster' from them too. They're great. Doesn't go rancid, they're not greasy and they smell good too. Keeps the fret board perfect.

Well today I just watched a couple YouTube videos on sanding or reshaping a neck. I figured I have this new (rather worn and rather inexpensive guitar sitting here that I really like, but only have one gripe, the neck is a bit chunky.) So! I dug out this DeWalt sander I forgot I had and just...

It is time to work again on my old PA amp...

This is an old Dynacord Eminent 2. One of the rare all tube devices from the 1st 2 production years (later on, these things had solid state preamps). Whe i initially restored it i removed two of the mic input modules and raised the input impedance of the two others.

TODO list:

1. make it play again.

It looks as if the power tubes are almost finally worn. After checking fuses and voltages and adjusting the bias, the amp plays again, but it was really silent for its nominal 80 watts. It looks as if i would need new power tubes. Well, last step when the project gets finished.

2. provide an input module designed for my needs as a bass amp. Use an ECC82 (12AU7) - i need its low output impedance - and a modified bandmaster 6G7 tone stack designed for a hiwattish frequency response. Unfortunately i do not have enough slots for a 3rd tone poti. But luckily the bandmaster stack can be setup in a way to meet my preferred setting on the Mywatt (and the existing channels provide a more Ampeg like sound)

HOW TIMELY is this? Bea.

My wife is putting on a conference in Philadelphia and I have to learn PA / Mic's etc equipment before Friday.

I had a Mic but needed a cord to test it. I figured to try it through my solid state Ashdown Mag300 Bass head, and Ampeg 1x15 Bass speaker,
She is also buying 2 portable PA, powered speakers with cordless mics and a corded one just in case. My Ampeg 1x15 cab, does indeed broadcast my vocals as I talk into the mic.
 
Wow, Bea, it is getting late over there.

While it has been a few months since, I was really pretty out of it on my vacation to the UK back in July. The 5 hours ahead of our time here in East Coast USA, sure was tough to adjust to.
