Announcing... RiffMasters!

Perma
I think it qualified for the extra 2 points.
And also love the quality of the production!!
Much appreciated!!! This damn R20 is a bit of a hassle to work with. Feel like I'd have been able to do it better, quicker, with an old 4 track cassette recorder, lol. I'm still testing this thing out. I also purchased a TASCAM Model 16 which I haven't even unwrapped yet. Perhaps I'll use THAT for the NEXT challenge. Or, I'll return it and struggle through with the R20 again. Maybe the TASCAM will be easier, but it sure is a LOT BIGGER.

I wish all fellow TTR RiffMasters and SpliffMasters good luck! This one is a tough one. Wish it would have been a reggae main. I got Reggae songs for DAYS! I am a bit of a multigenre Junkie though. Not afraid to dip my toes in most anything. Just PLEASE, for the LOVE OF GOD, don't make us do Opera!

@LiveeviL2000 thank you for the update... just getting a start on piecing together all the
submissions in a post for tonight's vote. Hope I got everyone. Still expecting possibly one or maybe two (maybe more!0 to stretch for the post at 7PM CST tonight

You can do it, RiffMaster Action Heroes! We're all rootin' for ya!

Glad to see you genre shapeshifters are having fun. There's a bit more of that to come, but I think most will find Main Event Round 4 a bit of a relief. May be a little panic/anxiety right at the get-go, but once that all settles out, easy-peasy. There will also be another Guitar Duel between the basement dwellers, and a side hustle challenge that I know
ibmorjamn in particular is really gonna love!

Oh good so the opera / mariachi mash up is next, that is a relief. :ROFLMAO: :celebrate2:.

Seems like there should be a couple entries coming in today, somebody has to be dusting off a Swedish mountain horn right now. :dood:

Alrighty,... Here we go. I spent a lot of time on this one. I hope you all like it.
TAYS (This Ain't Your Song) recorded on the ZOOM R20, with my homemade TeleSlider, AKG Perception 220 mic, and whatever effects I could hardly figure out how to use on this damned device. I wrote the lyrics and composed the slide guitar parts years ago but never got to recording. The subject matter is a little weird for me as I've long since came to peace with the three people it's written about:
1st verse, my old drummer/best friend in HS,
2nd verse, an old GF, Joy and
3rd verse, old best friend from JH/bass player

This Ain't Your Song

You sold your name,
You ain't the same thing you once were,
But you haven't changed,
You sold your name.

TAYS, TAYS,...

You lost your brain,
You ain't as smart as you think you are,
You think you're insane,
But genius is too close to insanity.

TAYS, TAYS,...

You lost a friend,
You had in me from the very start,
To you I send,
This song I hope you, take to heart.

TAYS, TAYS,...

TAYS, TAYS, TAYS, TAYS, TAYS, TAYS,

TAYS, TAYS.

Very nice work! Well done..

THANK YOU! It's coming through okay? I don't need to resubmit it? When I listen on the R20 it sounds a lot better than the transfer onto SoundCloud with their mastering. Maybe I shouldn't have mastered it on there?
The PC I got is a gaming rig set up specifically for graphic design, games and music recording. Have yet to use it for the latter. Even if I DIDN'T have a traumatic brain injury I'd have a hard time using it. I'm old school. If it isn't user friendly or plug-n-play, KEEP it, I don't want it. Computers and I don't get along much. They never seem to do what I want them to do, and I CLEARLY do not understand their language. Sometimes I just want to throw it through my window. Other times, I want to hang it from a tree and use it as a piñata. Soon enough, they'll be hanging us from trees and using us as piñatas... somewhere, in between, I hope I can just tell it what to do in plain English and it does it. The animosity probably stems from a pc crash I had years ago, lost 25 freshly recorded songs. I have some unmixed, unmastered rough recordings of some of the songs. I tried revisiting some of them and rerecording them. I just didn't have it in me. Couldn't get the same feel.

While we wait patiently for last minute Main Event submissions, please click on and enjoy "Lovely Coconuts" my original reggae tune and video made special for you fellas with a sweet tooth for eye candy. Much of it from my recent cancun vacay.

Audio only, no bikinis

Listen around the 3:00 mark for possibly the worst lead break in guitar history. So hilariously bad I just couldn't make myself record over it.

Awesome JAZZ segment, Brad! :dood:

@Sapient Man I love jazz, particularly Latin, but calling what I did during those unbearably long eight seconds "jazz" is an affront to the genre.

I mean sometimes we just freewheel it, you know? Might hit a small clunker, maybe bend it out or slide to recover or whatever ...but on that little section there? :pound-hand: I somehow manage to create a perfect storm of every clam imaginable, each worst than the last, trying so FRICKEN hard to find at least ONE damn note in key... but then fail SO hard.

Every time I listen it gets funnier. Bad Guitar HOF material right there.

Kinda proud how bad it is. Don't think I could even do it quite so bad again. It's why I left it in.

Alright….here’s my “rap/country/rock” mashup.

I’d like to thank Cake…for giving me the confidence to take pride in my natural rap style.
This recording/mix was done using only 3 effects plugins:
A plate reverb on a vocal effects bus.
EZDrummer 3.(when the electrics kick in, after the triangle strike)
A “mastering/limiter” plug on the main bus…a factory preset called “Soul Enhancer”.
No eq, or anything else….I'm fairly certain that could be a criminal offense in some places.

The rap/country intro was done completely with acoustic “instruments”….These “instruments”:

These were the other stringed instruments used….

This was some crazy shizz to put together, and it was recorded while it was being written.
I don’t have a pic of the lyric sheet yet…
Oh, yeah! And I finally got to “reverse selected item as a new take” near the end….that was fun.
