Announcing... RiffMasters!

Congratulations to member @jtcnj winning the Main Event Stage 2 Guitar Duel "Punk'd" voted at 11-7.

Jtcnj gets 14 points for the win, +4 from Kerry Brown = 18 points total
Member @Ku² earns 7 + 3 from Kerry, = 10 which I believes puts him in second place overall.

This one was a bit messy, you might say. Don't know how to change or adapt to make it better. So no changes.
If anything was learned through this process, let's all build on it and move forward with positivity and fellowship.

Please congratulate both members who battled with grit, a match that can be best-described as super entertaining!

Congratulations @Ku² ! Ten more points than I have achieved in this round. A very solid entry, with a bit of a T-Rex vibe (to my cloth-ear)…I only wished for a tiny bit more “up front” vocal. It’s a shame to hide that talent you’ve, obviously, got going on.

@Thatbastarddon ... I believe ou brother Ku'basa recruited a punk band friend for those vocals and it was run through some sort of pitch effect.
 You mean he’s not doing it all?…and it’s not all natural?…I am sadly reading that, and broken by the realization. Still a great entry…
Please know that it was you, that showed me that Reaper even has a “pitch correction“ plug-in.
I always just put it out there…puck ‘em if they don’t like it ;) it’s all I’ve got. I’m gonna make it happen.(or not;))

Even a drum track pulled off youtube would give your submissions extra oomph
at least give you a base to play to. IMO
True. The way I record and mix on the L20.... I spose I could edit n mix on the computer I just prefer the L20.
Which involves loading youtube vid, pull audio off, convert to wav file, dump to usb , put into L20, play along, mix, put back to usb....
Not complaining, just 'splaining why it's a pain.
I could try just using computer in future, I have to record guitar on L20 then dump USB to computer. Hard to do if drum tracks are on puter, I do not record direct into computer.
Just cause. Painful.

The current standings with the duel concluded.
Next stop ... The folking vote! or any other punk entries between now and then.
To our two duelists, congrats on a hard fought battle.
Enjoy those top spots while they last. It's like being the fastest gun in the west, everyone is gunnin' for ya!

Real time recording from YouTube drum video playing from your phone/tablet, via headphone out, direct to the L20? That’s a quick and dirty method I’ve used when I’ve had to… the GOT rap challenge Comes to mind. I did it a little differently for that one, but thought about doing it that way…my board has decent digital to analog and back routing capabilities…so I used them as a surrogate to record the YouTube audio in real time….one and done, sorta thing.

edit: forgot where I was…I’ll keep it down…save for trash talk n such. :dood:

I failed to consider how other people lay stuff down @Jethro Rocker ... there are a myriad of ways to git 'er dun. I'm used to using my mixer as a source feed into my DAW audio interface, then to the 'puter. There's no right/wrong way, and I have a bit of latency to deal with... but it's pretty efficient and flexible.
Plus all my stuff never moves anywhere which is convenient... but not all can do that. Luckily i can sit down and be recording my crappy guitar, bass, vox or keys inside one minute.

i guess yeah. I am used to using computer in the office not my phone. But that would work. Ultimately the G3 has a drum machjne built in I should just set it up in office.

No DAW interface. The L20 is so convenient as a one stop shop. So I have to usb stick over to computer from there.
At times it ain't worth it, 1 min of punk xmas music, for example! :D I could have added bass and dual gtr but.... meh..

i always feel like you guys are all light years ahead of me when it comes to recording. When you guys lay out some recording terms, I need to break out the sound engineer dictionary. Sometime you guys bring up topics I didn’t even know to ask. The very little I know is from listening to you guys go back and forth. Then when I get stuck, I usually pester you guys for info.

I wish I had a resource like this when I started out. Experimentation, and Recording Magazine/Electronic Musician, were mainstays for me. Happy to be of any help I can.

If it makes you feel any better, the only recording I've ever done was on a 4 track cassette recorder back in the late 80s and early 90s. :hide:

Pester me anytime @LiveeviL2000 but you may be disappointed LOL! I know enough to make noises, record them, sort of line them up, even them out somewhat, try to make the "sonic space" via EQ.

I just employed sends for the first time a few nights ago. Learning about midi triggers for VST drum samples and editing the hits and all that is probably the more difficult thing to grasp first off.

A person could spend years learning the rest of the tech, never mind the theory behind it. I have no fancy plugin tools. A bit of non-linear video editing experience from past careers has been somewhat helpful... but it's now way easier to learn these new basics than editing manually with a razor and tape and bouncing stuff like the old school ways.

And to think of the tens and tens of thou$and$ worth in tape, machines, all the processors, effects, a console, dedicated space etc. needed to record anything a few decades ago. How much per hour you say?

You can pretty much put most of it together pretty decent for a thousand bucks. Spend a bit more if you want top shelf mics which probably in the grand scheme of it all make the biggest difference, a treated room, good monitors. I have none of those LOL!

Having talent, inspiration and the time to use it are the real hardest thing to buy LOL!
