Announcing... RiffMasters!

Actually, many reports say that the MC5 and The Stooges invented punk rock. It just took another five or six years for the Brits to catch on and try to make something of it. Then there were the Aussie bands like The Saints, The Scientists, and Radio Birdman making their own spin on things.
Good point. I don't know much aboit it, MC5 is hard rock to me. I just see how much was UK. And the accent fits it.
Cheap Trick, one of my faves, has some punk roots.

Yeah, same attitudes but different places all at once. You can see the whole Detroit/NYC/Boston, UK, and Oz thing going on at once. There was phenomenal music coming out at that time. Even Cheap Trick and other Ohio.Midwest bands like Pere Ubu and Rocket From The Tombs were making their mark. Unfortunately people think “no solos” is across the board, when it was strictly a Ramones thing. When you listen to the Damned, Stranglers, Dead Boys, and many other punk bands, there were solos. But, they were short and sweet, and pertaining to the song. Plan 9 Channel 7 by the Damned being a rarity. They were anti prog, but still needed to fill up a 2:45 minute song with something. The profound lyrics certainly would have never filled the time for a proper single.

Not only have I been inspired to lay down more music in two months than the whole year previous, I'm being entertained AND edumacated. Feels good!

Thank you, fellow RiffBastards!

Social Distortion , no solo? Well more melodic short interlude.
Punks in the beginning probably no solo.Barely rhythms basics.
As the punks progressed so did their ability. I know what the general pop. Thinks is punk but to the people that lived it, it wasn't that glamorous.
Misfits kind of in the 90's

Oh OK, rules. Got it, well then. I guess 1 point is not that important to me. Besides , I will never come close to winning this.
Not at all brother! your post is totally legit and 100% in the rules.
I'm just sayin' if you added a bit extra, (not sure if you even own a bass or a drum VST or whatever)
your submissions would practically KILL!

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on the internet, but.... I believe @SG John has a fever,
and the only cure is...

MORE RIFFMASTERS!!!!!!!

I am so very happy to see you cranking them out, sir.
I think I can tell it's therapeutic for you too.

If I understand it correctly, SGJ's post of the Popes song is his SECOND
Main Event "Folk'd Up" post. Rock->Folk adaptation.

BUT... it's also a valid punk song, so, ladies and germs, we have our very first
RiffMasters rule-twisting, single post counting for TWO submissions!!!
(That is, if he chooses it to be. He's fully welcome to crank out another
punk item for a single, and perhaps he might! It's in his wheelhouse).

Dark Horse has entered the race. OMGGGGG!!!!

@LiveeviL2000 please add ONE point for SG John's Punk submission
And I note he is the Third RiffMaster to be DONE DONE DONE for Round #2

@LiveeviL2000 yessir.

Doing your punk song in a folk vein counts as both a Rock ->Folk, and a punk song.
@SG John can still also submit a purer more nastier punk song if he wishes, but he's maxed out on bonus points already.
His pro level strategy is beating the system.

SG John's Round #2 Genius PRO TIP Shortcut:
doing your folk song in punk style or a punk song in folk style covers two bases.

I had a punk song in post #931. It was an old recording that I threw in the thread for fun. I think that I got my first point for that one.

I honestly don't have time to think right now, as I'm dealing with a ton of family crap. So, if I don't completely play by the rules, I apologize.

In the meantime, if you want punk, you got it. I did that really well for a while. I have no real free time right now to make up some new stuff.

As for the folk cover of "That Woman's Got Me Drinking", I have a ton more. I used to play in an acoustic Celtic band that would do Irish versions of punk rock drinking songs with violin, tin wistle, and any other acoustic instrument. We covered all sorts of punk bands like The Ramones, The Yobs, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Gang Green, GG Allin, Slap Shot, Johnny Thunders, and many others. Imagine The Pogues covering the Dead Kennedys unplugged. That was us. The name of the band was The Gobshytes (spelled with an i, not y). Pete still keeps it going with a never ending changing group of faces. He burns people out pretty quick.
