I think I need this

While not a Gibby SG. After buying my used G400 several years back. Over the next few years I ended up modding and/or changing everything on it except the wood and the plastic. Some things needed swapped. Others maybe not so much. It was my first electric. And at the end of the day, it has been my “test mule.” I learned lots about working on and set up on an electric. Things you don’t even concern yourself with on an acoustic….. and ultimately, it turned into a right nice playing and sounding guitar.
My G400 got a JB in the bridge and it was fantastic, one of my Korean Epi LP’s got a JB in the bridge as well, all of my Strats got pickup changes also, either a JBjr or a 59, or an invader all in the bridge position..

Cheers

I had a pup die on my MIM Strat. Also had a tone pot get scratchy and didn’t clean up with contact cleaner spray. Used that as an excuse to update the whole mess. Replaced all three pots with some good CTS pots. Replaced the A5 Fender Noiseless pups with Loller A2 pups. Guitar sounded good before….. but now really has that Strat sound one expects…. Especially since I tend to play pretty clean.

My faded SG is going to get pots an maybe a new jack it’s getting wonky sometimes, my V could use a new jack as well, as it has started making a little noise..
But the other LP’s are humming like they are supposed to..

Cheers
Mitch,. Check the nut is tight on the jack,. Plus when you troubleshoot, take the jack out and clean around where the shaft touches and bend the spring a little tighter where it touches the tip then reinstall. Don't replace until you clean and tighten things.

Chinese parts...not surprising.

From what I understand. It’s not only the low-mid range guitars that get the cheap electronics. Beyond what you’ve said about Fender…. I’ve read Gibson doesn’t put the good stuff in until maybe the custom shop models. Lots of guys on that other forum did the same thing I did on my G400. Replace the pots with quality parts on their Gibby SGs.

Correct.

The shell game is real
Makes me glad if I wanted a big name stringed instrument, I knew my Chinese guitars were pretty likely to be Chinese, my Japanese one, Japanese, and my American ones were American. Of course some of these wear parts made in other countries like Schaller bridges, Badass and Hipshot bass bridges, etc.

Pretty sure all my gear is in the keeper pile. No junk, even my 1/2 dozen Asian made ones.

I used to get pallets of 'F' logo tuners - with a Chinese shipping manifest - to be delivered to the CS in Corona.

Makes me think of this ...

As far as I know, the CTS pots in your LP are made in Taiwan.
As are most components in your Origin - Vietnam.
Just sayin.
my first guitar was made in Japan in 1978.
Still use it still play it, only replaced 1 pot so far.

With Fender, its the "shell game" that bothers me the most. Things like the Assembled in California shenanigans with the American Flag sticker.

90% of Fender's products are Chinese, a small percentage Mexican, a smaller percentage MIJ and the smallest percentage - about 4% - USA made.

Working for Fender really opened my eyes to their dishonest practices and blatant efforts to conceal the truth.

This stuff is like an infection. It takes a while to get rid of it.

But for many, they've just lowered their standards. Its become acceptable to be a part of this mechanism of dishonesty on a global scale...even to the point of justifying it.

If you've noticed, not only have i been purging gear, I've been specifically purging the foreign gear. The Schecter Hellraiser C1FR and Jackson Adrian Smith were the first to go, and i made only pennies on the dollar because they are foreign builds.

The Origin will be replaced by the hand-made amp from @syscokid. The Origin will likely go to Chuck at Rockstars Academy High Desert.

My speaker cabinet was made by a guy in Baldwin Park, California.

250 watt Celestion Copperback 250's from England

Snake River Audio Cables

For many, this is a non-issue, but its a huge issue for me.

To each their own...

Japan has always made really good quality, IMHO.

The Japanese Fenders are better in finish and build quality than the genuine USA models, i am sad to say...and my job was QC of the Japan and California/USA models.

After the July 24, 2022 layoffs, i was assigned to QC the Mexican line, which had a staffing reduction. PM and I'll send photos.

My issue is when deceptive marketing practices are employed...and it turned my stomach to be a part of that. Once i figured that out, i was gone in just a few weeks.

This I totally understand.

If I ever make it to Lake Arrowhead, I would like to bring my Japan Made Steve Harris P Bass for you to check over and play. It is no flyweight toothpick and the neck is pretty sweet in the hand. Adrian has seen it.
