NIEMD

Maybe its because ive been forced to use them in certain performances pursuant to a contract, but i don't get a true representation of what the audience is hearing. Everything sounds very thin and one-dimensional.

Hope they work well for you.

A lot of the audio quality really comes down to the actual in-ear devices. Some of the really good (and expensive!) in-ears have ports that allow a certain amount of ambience to come through. Our drummer has used those before and he says they’re great.

In the studio, some producers like the staff to use IEM's as opposed to headphones. Ive used Odins and 64 Audio Fourtes, plus Bose and Sennheiser IE900's and none had a really authentic sound.

I've never been more confident - in a live situation - than with floor monitors.

Now, if you're paying me, then I'll use whatever you like, but IEM's really lack the dynamics of being able to hear everything.

Yeah. Once I got used to in-ears, I enjoyed being able to dial in my own mix and hear it regardless of where I am on stage. It allows more mobility, too.
Yeah and less feedback issues.
That said, our singer hated the drop out we got from cheap IE systems, amd we reverted back to floor wedges. I am ok with them, I only have all our vox, mine especially, in the wedge. Sometimes gtr 2 stage depending. So nothing complex.

True. Our singer uses an XVive, too. She goes out into the crowd and sometimes gets a dropout if she gets too many people around her. Eventually, she and I will probably both upgrade our systems. Our keyboard player and drummer use in-ears, but they are hard-wired to the mix. Our bass player is the only one still using a floor monitor.

There are certain songs where I will leave the stage for a solo, but I don't go as far out from the stage as she does. Also, if she leaves the stage, the bass player and I will often move to the front of the stage and play.

We bill ourselves as a "party band" so it's pretty important that we don't just stay locked in place!

I am all over the place too but anywhere out front I can hear vox etc fine no need for in ears for that location.
The singer Sharon is excellent at crowd participation and covers lots of ground. She should have IEM. Holds mic out to crowd etc.
Normally I am stage left.

Wow…looks like a lot of fun!

My kinda gig.

So, if I’m ever in Saskatoon…and you need a guitar player for a gig…well….!

Not sure if you saw the video from this year's...

That’s what I’m talkin‘ about!

I'm not 100% sure. I just know that some producers prefer them to headphones

I suppose I’m not understanding why a producer would care that a player uses one or the other, as long as the player is hearing what is necessary to play the part.

I understand if the producer says to use something that you don’t argue, but I’m trying to understand the rationale for making someone else use one or the other.

Ah, well…

Ah, well…

I'm not sure there's any logic behind any of these things... LOL

For years, we used headphones in the studio. They work. When i was a hired gun on a worship team, i used headphones because i disliked the tone through my Aviom.

In the worship band I was in for a number of years. All we had were floor monitors. Everyone was volunteer including the guys running the board. When it came to balancing out the monitors so everyone could hear what they needed…. No one ever got turned down…. If guitar was too loud and you couldn’t hear keys…. Keys just got turned up. It got so bad there were mornings I would unplug my monitor and drag it off stage since I didn’t really need it. By the time church started, stage volume was so loud we could shut off the mains and the congregation could still hear the music just fine.

So IEMs were great when we started using them. We did keep 3 floor monitors at the front for the singers.

I got my pair of the same earbuds today.
Holy sheepshit!
Unreal! Like there is a sub inside your head. Lows are incredible but still exvellent clarity. Better lows than my Shure SE425s... $350 on sale for $310....
I odered moee - a spare, a set for the missus, a set for the singer in case she tries In Ears again....

If you want even for listening to tunes while cutting the grass, run don't walk and GET them!!
Thanks @smitty_p !

I‘m interested to hear of your impressions, as well.

Pretty wild, huh?

I’ve thought about buying a second pair as a spare, too.
