Possible SG Scratch Build:

In the so anyway thread, there is a video and pics of a method to set up a temporary bridge so that the guitar can be strung, intonated and the strings properly located. Of course, you need to install the neck and tuners first.

Got it.

I appreciate that.

Guys, I need a set of Gibson Green Keys!!!!!

This is gonna be a fairly fast paced build, most of it taking place on our 30 minute lunch and some in my colleagues' workshop after work.

I'll post some pics as we progress, but we not gonna photo every last detail. Wanna get this done as soon as possible.

Yes,

I considered a Pitbull Kit, but if we are gonna build it ourselves, I'd rather drive down (42 miles) to Anaheim and pick up the wood myself...
I can understand that, Robert, plus I was unfamiliar with Pitbull and so you say it is a kit.
I still remark at how well, SgJohn and RVA have done basically from RAW WOOD to finished Guitars. BIG KUDOS to those who can....

Quality wood is hard to find now I was going to build a 1958 Explorer copy got black limba wood should be white limba
As fate would have it found a mint Gibson Explorer in Japan it's 22 years old now and has a resale value why it's a real Gibson
John said my limba wood was ugly 100% correct.

I did? I thought that I liked it.

I definitely like the Explorer that you found.

@SG John and @RVA.

What is the best, most reliable method to locate the bridge and maintain correct string alignment???

On my previous builds. I had B.Hefner do the layout, so this will be a first for me...
I like the way Ray did it with the trapeze tailpiece. It would be easy to temporarily attach it with the strap button.
How the neck will be built...

Will you be scarfing the Maple at the headstock so you don’t end up with strange patterns in the wood? Or are you painting a stinger to hide it?

I want people to see the neck thru effect. No scarf. Three, one-piece planks.

I'm gonna seal it with vinyl sealer, then black lacquer and lacquer clear....but I plan on leaving the back of the neck and the back of the headstock bare wood, stained and oiled.

Robert, How about a sweet 5 piece neck with Walnut stripes like this LP's neck. Beautiful beautiful look. See it at 11:40+
My 3 piece design is more practical and interlocking spars - a build methodology I have seen in wooden aircraft construction - and stronger too.....

Not shown in this diagram, the outside of the neck will have a machined ridge that will press-fit into a routed groove in the body, causing the body and neck to be mechanically pressed together. The lower straplock hole will serve as a hydraulic vent for the glue to escape when the neck is pressed into the body. The neck will 'bottom out' in a machined cavity just inboard from the lower rounded edge inboard of the strap post.

The neck and body will have a .001" interference fit.
