What's on your 2022 gear wish list

They just don't feel right. The controls are in the wrong place. I keep hitting the middle pickup and the volume control. I could live with that but for some reason I don't feel comfortable playing a strat. When I'm playing the tone always feels too bright no matter what I do. When I listen back to what I played it sounds fine. The best strat I've owned was a MIJ Squier that I put some cheap GFS pickups in. I never should have let that one go. I plan to see if I can duplicate it.

Yeah, start slow. Maybe, try several out and see if it’s even worth it for you.

Now, I very much like Stratocasters, particularly the models with the Delta Tone circuit and the cast saddles, instead of the bent steel saddles. I like pretty much everything about them. For me, the controls are in the right spot and I spend a lot of time with the middle pickup. I think it’s a great guitar. They really feel good to me.

BUT….

That’s just me. Music, gear, instruments are all very individual and personal. Be honest with yourself as you explore this. The last thing you want to do is to throw a lot of time and money at this just to still be dissatisfied at the end of it all.

What's on my 2022 wish list,,, @SG John's Billy Bo. Every time I see a pic of it I just WANT it (&/or wish I had his woodworking/luthiery skills). I don't think my chances are any better than they have been since I first saw a pic of & started to covet the damn thing, but it is a wish list right? Cheers

Free time to play what I have is all I want. It would be fun to have a nice jazz box or acoustic that I can plug in, but they don't help with the free time part.

OK, maybe a second '71 Hiwatt 4122 speaker cab (with Fanes), so I can have a full stack.

The only thing I'm considering at the moment is a Taylor Koa Acoustic. It's up there in the high $$$ range so I have to save some cash first. Or wait for 48 months zero interest financing...ha ha

...and someday, I am going to get a PRS Private Stock McCarty 594. That day may be far off though. It's also hard to justify $10K on a guitar.

$10k is a tough one, but I bet if you try really hard, you could find some kind of justification for it. Maybe something like, "The kids don't need college, the real world will school them!"

My kids are both grown and well past college. All of my cars and houses are paid off. It's all saving for retirement and disposable income at this point.

I'm just struggling with the thought of how much $10K really is in the realm of hobbies. Maybe I can get it for my retirement gift in 2026? I'm not very patient though...

I played a couple of Koa Taylor acoustics at Northern Lights Music in Littleton, NH. I would also love to have one. They sound better than they look.

Want to adopt an adult child?

Buy it 4 years early and just say it's a retirement test run and buy the T-shirt just so everyone knows you are serious about it!

I have nothing on my wish list. And now with my Social Security every month I have $$$ to do some of the stupid :poo: I couldn't do before.
And still, no GAS...
But I see Adrian quite frequently, and more often than not, go home with a new toy that I can't even play anymore.
Happened again last week.
But I can junk rub em, caress them, mod them to hell & back and swap em back to Adrian for other toys.
It's a never ending cycle.

However I have disemboweled another mandolin with a busted neck and turned it into a 21" scale dulcimer strummer.

The 21" scale is much easier for me to play with my arthritic shoulder and gimp hand.

No idea yet. Awaiting the arrival of this puppy in March.
Gonna play out more with any luck.

I really can't find a flaw with the Strat layout. I may switch between 4 or 5 studio-owned guitars in an average session day...ofyen running the gamut from a vintage Broadcadter to a PRS Artisan...but maybe playing a strat for 28 years helps...???

Here's two with a side jack (I prefer the angled top jack because it's harder to pull out if you step on a cable)

Note that Schecter moved the volume knob slightly...

On the Jackson, that's a custom made black/red black pickguard with my preference of stock knob locations....

Back in 2003, GFS and Carvin sent me a bunch of pickups to demo. The pickups in the Jackson are experimental GFS's circa 2003.

The bridge is a 14k A5 Double-Slug humbucker and the singles are the predecessors of what would become their "Tru Coil" line of hum canceling single coils. The middle is 10k and the neck.is 7k.

I justified 10K .....for three. One would be a MoFo. I'd recommend with higher dollars like that you should get a case queen. Losing the dollars off the top of pretty much anything new like that will sting. Let the original buyer take the hit then you get a solid resale "for what you paid" or maybe even an increased amount.
