Non-Reverse Thunderbird Bass build

Routed for pickups and wiring finally. Got some other little things done. Mainly, more sanding, fat beer drinker’s belly carve, and filler wedges under the fingerboard. Tomorrow morning when I have a bit more patience I’ll drill the holes for the bridge posts. Then, it should be ready for grain filler, and finishing.

Looking good so-far.
Your skill set surpasses mere mortals, John.
That sir, is fine art!

Thanks guys. As luck would have it, no sanding sealer. Just placed an order for a couple of cans, along with four cans of lacquer.

When we finish getting the all the quotes for the kitchen and other house projects done and go to the bank, I'll have to figure in extra money for one of these compressors. That way, I can stop messing around with spray cans. I can also use all my air tools when working on the cars or motorcycles.

First coats of sanding sealer are on. Next up is mixing the antique cherry (not red, but actual wood tone) dye with the pore filler, and applying several coats. Some sanding, some more dye, some more sanding sealer, some more sanding, and finally lacquer clear coats.

More sitting around and waiting. The grain filler that was on the shelf had hardened. Could not find a hardware store, paint store, or even Woodcraft in Northeast Mass or southeast New Hampshire with any in stock. Had to bite the bullet, and order from StewMac. :(

They say, shipping on Tuesday. Then three to seven business days for shipping. If it gets much more humid here in the northeast, this project is stalled until September.

Want this one done, so I can jump back into the two Korinas. Granted, the interruption did mean that I actually played a guitar for a little over two hours last night. Too wiped tonight, but back on the Hawkwind transcriptions tomorrow night. Got eight done, and need to finish up four more.

What style of filler did you order from Stew Mac? When I did my bass I went with black in the powder form. I really liked it and being powder it pretty much has an infinite shelf life if you keep it sealed.

Went with the water based. It needs longer setting time to use with lacquer, but now that the humid season is here, who knows when I’ll get to spray it.

Last week we had dueling temperatures and humidity in the high nineties, then went to a three day long monsoon in the mid fifties. Today, it’s 70 degrees, with no humidity.

Sanded the wash coat of sanding sealer and threw down a few coats of antique cherry stain. Tomorrow I’ll start the pore filler. Even though it will be hot, I can do that in the cellar.
