For sure! I mean, I have friends who have switched over to modeling wholesale. They couldn’t be happier.
My one bud has a full Kemper rig that he loves. Problem is, it sits in a room right next to a JVM, so its fraudulence is easily revealed (so he won’t gig with it). I just went full circle after a decade of searching for a low-volume, portable solution, and realized only a tube amp with a small pedalboard will get me where I want to go sonically.
Based on what I have experienced over the last 20 years with modelers I’d say we’re another 10 away from them genuinely matching the tone of a tube amp. I think that’s why they are all packed with so many effects actually - the makers are hoping we won’t notice that the core amp sound is pretty meh if there’s enough chorus and delay on top of it.
All the gear i get, no matter what..the end game is live band use. It must. This music thing in life i have experienced, is progressive since day 1 when buying the first guitar guitar..in my case..how do we get to the studio..then the stage.. its nice there is so many options available no matter ya music situation is..make music..lots of it
My rig for 20 years, Fender P & Ibby into 1 pedal into SVT or pf500I try not to change my gear. I am a minimalist. The less I have to worry about the better...
Sweet set up D, soon as mortgage goes through, this whole house will be a band room. lol
That's why I use modeling amps at home, and this is my live rig.I too have taken every opportunity to try modeling amps without purchasing one. I do not find their tones to be authentic. They sound good in a studio or home environment, but everytime I have heard one live, they don't cut through the mix. They are not for me.

Would you fit in that cabinet if you removed the speakers?
I doubt that I could, but many people who are smaller than myself probably could.Would you fit in that cabinet if you removed the speakers?
well.....here is a reminder about a GREAT practice amp (typically overlooked) a reminder ---about a FEATURE PACKED American Based mfct. ----class A --A/B TUBE amp--- that does SOO MUCH for the $ its incredible -- and -- it can be purchased for UNDER 300.00 used all day long ..............................................many online right now fer salesJust a friendly reminder that this thread got started because I’ve tried a whole bunch of modeling amps and they all suck at sounding like what they are trying to sound like. They are so uninspiring to play that I have to talk myself into actually turning them on (would rather play unplugged). We now return to our normal programming.
Right on, man.I think this is part of the problem. Manufacturers claim that thier modeling amps sound like "insert famous tube amp". They'd be better off making them sound the best they can without trying to emulate something else, IMO.
Right on, man.
That's one reason why I like the Katana. Has different models but I have no idea what amps they emulate and don't care. They sound pretty good, that's what matters.

a practice---to D.I. recording -- to stage amp all in one.................what more does one need Good Sir KA-nigget ?
I use the crunch mode with a bit lower gain. I rarely go for low gain tones though.I had a Katana, among many others. I actually went on and on about what a great practice amp it was. Until I tried to get a decent mid-gain tone out of it: it was killer in the "brown" channel for real high-gain stuff but I was never able to get a usable low- or mid-gain sound without running it real clean with a dirt box in front of it. The effects did sound good though.
