The only SG models I really don't like besides the old Robot are the Custom (gold hardware, middle pickup, weird wiring, and a massive pickup rout) and the Diablo (carved top).

Yes he would have. DonO is one class act for sure. I had a need and he offered to help and even offered to sell it back to me if I got cash saved up again. I never forget the brotherhood and kindness of DonO.

I'd vote Struggling to decide. But can't pick it because favorite is spelled wrong.

Favourite is spelled correctly. That is the proper English (as in not American) way to spell it!

Interesting. Do you find that P90s are more difficult to find the right sound than a humbucker?

Hmmmmm... Never thought about it like that. Even though P90s and hummers are different in design and performance from each other, it almost seems that I barely ever have to make any EQ adjustments to the amp when switching from a P90 guitar to a humbucking guitar.

But now you got me thinking... I think I spend more time fiddling with the amp's EQ when playing regular Strat-style single coils to get a sound that I can hang with.

I wonder if, when I'm changing over my pickups on the Special to the SDs, if I should try with just the bridge in place before putting the neck puppy in - see if I can hear any difference at all?

A worthy experiment. Especially if you're doing it...

Sorry Ninja, Even if I conceded, which I won't, I can't see how a word with extra letters is more correct or more proper than an American way that uses fewer letters and thus is more economical. I have never been to England, and if truth be told, ANYTIME I am forced to watch a movie with ENGLISH actors, I can barely understand a word they are saying. I often say I wish they spoke English. I have to add subtitles to these movies just to understand what they are saying.

I don't have this problem with Aussies or Kiwis.

^ that makes perfect sense, thank you. It'd be interesting to see photos if you have time - to see how different the neck joint is constructed. I know a Junior sounds very different from a Special, but hadn't thought of this reason as part of it - sounds perfectly simple now that you explain it...

How are you finding your Special?

Haven't really played with it much. This was the first week I've been home for the past month. The time I have spent playing has been either with the Cipollina or blue SGs. I do want to yank the tailpiece off, and check the threads and properly intonate it. I'll probably get to it this week sometime. It depends on how my house projects are going.

As for the neck joint of a Junior, this is pretty much what an SG box joint looks like regardless of model.







Once you route it for a pickup, there is less material holding the neck to the body. This photo is of the Special I built. There is even less of a joint on a Standard or Custom due to the larger pickups.

The pinhole at the middle of the body: I see the hole lining up with the vertical center. What else is that hole guiding you for?

It was one of two holes to attach the body routing template. The other one was where the neck pocket is. When I routed the bridge pickup cavity, that disappeared.
