We had to rent a p.a. back then, we ended up in the red lol.Dude, that was some serious scratch for a 15-year-old at the time! I didn't get into my first "real" band until 1982, and at that time we practically had to beg to play places for free. I didn't get paid for a gig until about 1984/85.

We paid to play.
We finally rented the same p.a. so many times the local store owner let us take the two columns, amp head mic.'s and stands to our rehearsal space and let us make payments.Good point. In my high school band we had to rent a PA whenever we were at a place that didn't have one, so technically we were paying to play too! In our practice space we ran the vocals through a bass head attached to a guitar cabinet. Sounded horrendous but got the job done. It was so nice when I got a little older and started playing with a singer that had their own PA!
