Discussions Around The Keurig:

I remember when Living Colour came out. I really liked and still do like Vernon Reid's lead playing. To me, it's like he pushes accidentals to the edge or something, like he may not know what he's doing and it begins to sound like wrong notes, BUT he does know what he's doing and it doesn't sound like wrong notes and in fact sounds freak'n awesome as a whole. The band was a trip all the way around. They were somewhat different and fresh at the time and Reid's fairly unique way of approaching guitar/lead was a big part of the reason - at least to/for me anyways... Three Alien Thumbs Up to the Living Colour Band !!!

I really dug them when they first came out. I saw them for the first time about a month after the video for 'Cult' dropped and they were kind of an overnight phenom. It was at the original Hammerjack's in Baltimore for those of you who remember. There were approximately double the people in line that even that huge concert hall could handle, so they ended up piping the show into the bar side and showing it on the TV screens. It was the first and last time I saw them do that for any band. They absolutely slayed that night.

Don't listen to much of their catalog any more, but I do still break this one out every so often:

I always liked it best because it was both darker and heavier than the first two albums. Still rocks hard as hell today. Never really listened to much after the hiatus other than a song or two, but they just didn't seem to have the magic of the first three albums.

What kind of song are you looking for? Metal, Blues, Hard Rock???

Im not even sure!!!

I thought about a metal version of Eddie Money"s "Shakin," and a jeavier version of "Dirty Deeds," but im not dead-set for or against anything!!!!

I like the Shakin' idea. Do you want something recognizable or can it be obscure? Give me some criteria and maybe I can help you find somethin'?

Don't take this the wrong way but I'd argue the edge left these songs a long time ago. They are...pretty aged. For chrissakes, Ace Of Spades and Cult of Personality are used in commercials now, so they've become about as mainstream as any pop song from the era, no matter how challenging to play. The listener has heard these songs umpteen times (maybe not the Rory song, and I assume you mean the Rory song and not the Chris Rea song) so they've already achieved "classic rock radio" status. To me, I think you gotta dig a whole lot deeper and choose songs people haven't heard a million times, maybe from bands they know but only know the radio hits, which songs like Ace and Cult certainly are. Maybe also search for something a little (lot) more recent? Just my 2 cents.

Here is an aged song but I am certain NO ONE has commercial IZED it. I am sure Robert and Band will forego putting this song on record, but I am sure Gball will agree, the level of musicianship to pull this song off is UP There on the hard scale.

Enjoy, all you Rush Heads.

I'm not sure...

Somebody suggested Motorhead style vocals on Cult of Personality!
