Project Carvin V-16: Morphing from PCB to Point To Point Turret Board

This is exactly the way I do them with my anvil/punch set, though with a hammer, not a drill press. The anvil sits on the work bench with the hole in it facing upwards. The turret body (the part of the turret that is above the board) is inserted into the anvil. The board is placed onto it & then the turret is swaged with the punch on the boards underside. So the board is upsidedown when the turret is swaged.
Downloading the sheet for the first one you posted shows it is for press setting (interference fit) the turrets where the turret bottom does not need to be swaged (as it's a tight fit in the board), though it could be used in the way ChasFred does them. In this case you would need the punch under the board to swage the bottom of the turret.
Over the last 3 decade I have set a lot of turrets. The setup I'm using now (last 15yrs) is by far the easiest method & does the nearest job (look at the face of the punch in my pick or on the evatco site). It swages them properly rather than spread them like a center punch does, see pics. These turrets are swaged with a pointed punch (like a center punch)View attachment 32888
Notice the bottom of the turrets are flared & split (this is a Valvestorm supplied board). Now compare to these properly swaged turretsView attachment 32889
This is a board I did a few days ago with the evatco supplied anvil/punch set. Big difference (sorry about the dust on the board in the 2nd pic).
If you like I could grab you an anvil/punch set & send to you for future use. Cheers
Last night I pulled the trigger for a bunch of parts from Valvestorm (Mainly extra hookup wire), Tube Depot (Mainly the split turrets), Mouser (All the resistors and odd-value caps), and with AES (Amplified Parts). AES is supplying me with all pots, sockets, switch, jacks, turret boards, and 95% of the caps. But it looks like I should have ordered from AES their Staking Tool and their Anvil tool... Dang!!!!

Is this what you have CF?

The anvil is quite similar. The punch I have has a better shaped tool end that doesn't "spread" the base of the turret. It's shaped kinda like a firing pin protruding from the flat face of the punch.
Pretty sure Evatco accepts overseas orders. The anvil/punch set would cost around 10 US bucks & it only weighs a couple of grams so shipping should be cheap, should you want one. Or, my offer to grab & send one to you stands. Cheers

Send away... :cheers2:I'll PM you my address.
Ok, order placed. I had to order a few ceramic pre amp tube sockets etc for my upcoming Black Flag JTM50 build (woohoo, just waiting on my Valvestorm order to arrive later this week & I'll be into it) so ordered the anvil/punch set for you. Orders usually arrive in 2~3 days, then I'll send it on to you. It really is worth getting, does a better job of setting the turrets than any other types I've tried. Cheers
Edit: Order shipped, express post. Cheers

Another place to get a headcab is "Guitar Cabinets Direct". This is where the Valvestorm headcabs are made & they are great to deal with. Cheers
I was just checking out the Guitar Cabinets Direct website. Mojotone must be getting their cabs built by these guys too. Maybe even Allen Amps. Since I have a Marshall-style head cab by Mojotone and a Princeton Reverb-style head cab from Allen Amps, I can vouch for how nice these cabs are... (y). Might be able to save about 10% ordering direct from GCD! Thanks!

Well I'm glad you wanted that anvil & punch Sysco, as it made me place my Evatco order a few days earlier than I would have. Now my Valvestorm order has arrived today, a few days earlier than expected & I've received notification that the Evatco order will arrive tomorrow, so it's worked out well & I'll be starting on my Black Flag JTM50 build tomorrow night (woohoo). I'll get the anvil & punch off to you tomorrow afternoon. Cheers

Ivan knows already, back when I got my orange Marshall head, I also picked up a 50 watt empty Marshall head cab in nice shape.

Yup Chasfred. Y'all will be in trouble if I ever get a chassis and components to build an amp to fill it with. The shop I got it from said a local national artist Md band had used it at one time. It has no Marshall logo. But it has other Marshall factory labeled parts on it.
So I guess that means you plan on holding on to it then?

This is the dummy load I just put together so I can troubleshoot with out bothering other
people in the house. My shop is currently inside in the home office.
I still need to add heat shrink to it.

So do you still have that empty head cabinet?
If you are ever lucky enough to come across them, the empty chassis/headcab units (& 4x12 cabinets) used on stage by large acts in their fake "wall of Marshalls" are (apparently) great for amp builds. The chassis are a normal chassis with nothing in them, just a power cord & the power switch/ indicator lamp works to make it look the part. I've not been that lucky but have heard of others using for builds. Cheers
