Dead Horse - Vintage vs Modern wiring

I always use 50's style wiring when I am putting in my own harness.....

However, on my 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute, it sounded so fantastic that I left the PCB in place.

I don't notice much difference because I play with the controls wide open....
I have a 2016 SG Standard that sounds great and I have decided not to mess with the PCB (contrary to my normal M.O.)

You mean, like...always? As in, you never roll back the volume or tone?

If that's the case then, Wow. I'm a constant knob-fiddler. I find most of the really interesting sounds that I am looking for are with the knobs rolled back to somewhere between 5 and 8. Wide open always sounds too strident and uncontrollable to me.

50s-Style (Vintage) Wiring for me!

The 50s Wiring is my personal choice for any of my all-humbucker guitars. The humbuckers seem to clean up better, not only backing off on the volume control, but by using the tone control too.

I like to set my single channel amps with generous amounts of preamp gain and drive the power section hard (... when possible). This is where the tone magic happens! Rolling off volume and tone will give me some very sweet and full cleans that are still capable of being loud or mellow depending on my picking or strumming dynamics.

My P90 guitars are set up with the Modern Style Wiring.

Same. Rolling back the volume and digging in hard results in one of the most satisfying tactile experiences I've ever had playing guitar.

I have a mix of both. Some guitars sounded good enough with modern wiring that I didn't mess with it. Others sounded better when I did go for '50s wiring. I usually play with the volume between 7 and 10. Also mess with the tone knobs some, even though I don't do the "Woman Tone" thing with the neck pick up.
