To Scream or Not To Scream:

Is it here yet? … Robert?

Another cool feature about the inexpensive EHX East River Drive is that it's built around the JRC 4558 chip. True to the original TS 808. When I fixed Chili's TS9, I replaced the fried chip with a new JRC4558

What's the benefit of that chip??? Or a Maxon PCB???

Yeah , the DSL is different, it has more gain and a different mid emphasis, but they do have a pretty similar "Marshall Family" sound I think. The DSL series is more fizzy/modern high gain than the JCM-800. And yeah, at that time the 800 was being used in anger pretty much all the time - either band practice or gigs.

Damn DSL40C sure is darker than I expected....

What's the benefit of that chip???
It's a good sounding and interacting chip for this particular circuit.
Or a Maxon PCB???
The originals were built by Maxon with Maxon proprietary parts. I'm not sure if Maxon is still involved with current Ibanez Tube Screamers. They do produce their own though, as the Maxon OD808... same 4558 chip!
