Battling Alcoholism...

OP im glad you are still here. I know how you feel.

i was a cell dependent alcoholic, but i was polysubstance. if it got me high id try it.

its been 4 years for me t totally sober and clean. no drugs, no nothing, no weed, no beer. if its mind altering i wont touch it.

my bank account is a lot bigger and my health is perfect.

i no longer have to feel high, or "different" to enjoy life.

I remember you quit 4 years...congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment.:) I hope to make it that far and even more. My first year sober took me a while to adjust and still recovering from the heavy drinking. I'm starting to feel better in my second year. I bet you feel much better and now your saving money to buy more guitars like me!:)

I am not against responsible drinking, but what I have seen from the many, most don't. In my life experiences, nothing good comes from the brown bottle. I don't drink any alcohol period, never had a problem with it. I made this choice years and years ago. I had a close friend who became an alcoholic when we hung out together, nicest guy you would ever meet. We used to go to a club, I would have a Cola, Then he would order a jug for himself, then he used to start into Gin straight, I would never let him drive I always drove. I would talk to him and try to get him to see he had a problem. He used to say to me your right, but nothing changed. His hands would shake, he was a wreck. Well I was transferred out of town and we lost track of each other. Hadn't seen him in 35 years until 6yrs ago my Wife and I were in the city where I used to live and we ran into him in the mall. His girlfriend at that time talked to us while he went to the rest room. She said he still had a drinking problem. Man he looked old, his hands shook more than ever and his body twitched. Sorry to say but if I said boo to him I bet he would jump. My Wife who didn't know him said he has an alcoholic problem for sure. He had lost a couple of really good jobs, also he was not working at the time we had our conversation. My take on it don't start drinking then you will never have to worry about stopping.

You're doing great! The wine section and the liquor counter at the grocery store still bother me sometimes. I've been sober 3 1/2 years now. It does get easier.

That's great...3 1/2 years is a good run.:) When you quit how long do you think it took for the hangover effect to disappear? I found it took me quite a few months or almost even a year.

66 days with no alcohol, and getting better each day. Most notable changes have been a loss of 20 lbs
and an increase in patience and happiness. I do miss sitting down with friends and enjoying Heinekens.
The band I joined fizzled out, but I've decided to take bass lessons and really commit to improving my playing.

@BlackSG91 , how are you doing?
