Hah, somebody had an opinion...

Those electronics don't look very CS if that implies Custom Shop...the 5 way switch looks like something out of a Squier...
The professionalism ,or lack thereof, of the Fender employee who wrote that (if it came like that from factory), is appalling to me.
Especially so on a $$$ custom shop guitar.

But if the Original owner put it there as it reflects his experience, I'm ok with that.
Hopefully Don O can explain some historical details, but... I don't think that is even the original pickguard. I see a bunch of shreds of pickguard material all over the covered part of the body. Notice the twin holes for the pickguard by the tone pot area? The aluminum foil shielding attempt looks very amateurish, too.

It's funny how people can look at something and see it differently, whether it's punctuation, the nut, or import switch. I've had trouble with those import switches. I usually replace them. I think I'm allergic.

Agreed...

It’s a 1988 CS Strat with a SE serial number that I bought around 1998. So I’m guessing some previous owner or a guitar tech was pissed with it. The aluminum foil job is so, so, I don’t see a direct ground connection.

Robert, that is a locking nut.

I too saw the second pick guard holes and had a WTF thought. Who changes a CS pup setup (n)

The fret board cleaned up well, but I think it needs some fret work, maybe new frets. I’ll see if I can post some close ups and get an opinion. I’m also thinking now of a new pick guard setup. I’ll be desoldering this one next weekend and getting a better look.

@Don O - way back in the day, I knew several guys who played a stock Fender tremolo with a locking nut. This guitar seems really unusual!

Dents in 2 frets, and what seems like wear. I’ll post some pics.
I have some small dents in a couple of the older used cheap guitars I have in the lower 3-4 frets that dont make for any playability issues.
Besides the dents, if your frets are worn down that low, it will be obvious visually and by feel.
I tried to compensate for a warped neck by leveling - it was an epic fail.
BUT, the frets on both sides outside of the valley of the warped section were cut down real low.
Though it was a fail, it was obvious to identify the situation in hindsight, and a good learning experience.
