I just sold my Gibson Les Paul Junior. Litterally minutes ago. Since I got the SG Junior I don’t think I have picked up the Les Paul Jr. once. So when a 2018 SG Standard with a repaired headstock popped up for sale in a store here I had to pull the trigger. The SG is brand new and arrived the store with a broken headstock. They repaired it and are selling it with a heavy discount. I’ll break even. Happy day. I’m guessing I’ll get it some day next week.

This was pure luck, I have to say. I was looking through the web pages of a Norwegian store jost searching for the price of an amp because a guy on a different forum was wondering about the value of various amps. I just happened to see they had a 2018 Standard up for sale at a bout 60 % off. New these were sold for around $1750-1800 here, I'm paying about $700 case included. When looking at prices, you need to take into account that all new American guitars are more expensive here than in the US. Here are some pics from the store (the actual guitar):

I just posted some pics. The headstock came clean off, and the break is visible, but stable. The guitar comes from a reputable store, one of Norway's biggest, and their service is very good. If I'm not happy, returning the guitar is no problem, so it doesn't worry me at all.

My Les Paul goldtop has a break in almost the exact same place. I got that one pretty cheap too for the same reason.

Oh yes, it definitely is!

It will be really interesting to check out the 61R and 61T pair the guitar comes with. A5 magnets, DC readings around 7.5-7.8 kΩ. Anyone here with any experience regarding the 61 humbuckers? I guess there's a PCB in it as well, so swapping the pickups for something else is not an option unless i also swap the rest of the electronics. Which knowing myself well I'll probably do at some point...

Maybe. But then again I already have enough pots lying around, and I have capacitors. And I am in no hurry. Also, I have several pickups lying around that I will probably put up for sale; three different Gibson humbuckers, a TysonTone dogear P90 and two Lindy Fralin soapbar P90s, so paying for a new harness shouldn't be an issue. (I'm reluctant to sell the TysonTone, though. It's just so damn nice! I pulled it out of the Les Paul Junior and put the stock one back in before I should the guitar.)

Does anybody here have any experience with the 61 pickups from Gibson (not the vintage ones...)? I guess they were used in the 2014 SGJs as well as The SG Standards of 2018 and 2019.
 
To each his own I will never buy a guitar I don't play first after the DT SG experience. The last good guitar I got was the 1/1965 SG Standard frets shot finger
board and neck twisted but it had the killer tone it was worth rebuilding.
So much for Pleck look at the frets on the DT I have a Tusq nut and a TonePros bridge this guitar has not been played.

Playing before buying is ideal, but very often not an option here if you want anything at all... There is one single good guitar store in my town and naturally their selection is not endless. The price was very good on this one, and there is always the possibility of returning the guitar if I don't like it.

Yes, I'm not worried about the damage. I'm pretty careful with my instruments, and when a break like this has been properly fixed the only issue is the cosmetic one. And quite frankly I don't really care much about that, especially when the result is a really cheap guitar like this!
