NGD: Yamaha Revstar RS502T

Life in SoCal...you just hope you have good neighbors, which I do fortunately!

Yeah, I know the pitfalls of crappy neighbors, Mine that lived 200-300 feet away broke into my place twice from 2012-2015 and stole some pretty valuable and even sentimental value items from me. I know some know about this, but despite advice from them, I still have a hard time returning to my home and not getting a creepy uneasy feeling of what I will find when I arrive.

PS. PLUS I can't just go blow their friggen heads off like I wanted to and then just resume living in peace like before they violated my domicile.

I had a woman friend who rented from a guy out in the desert south of LA in Rancho Santa Margarita. Nice subdivision type housing, but I would have not liked the proximity of neighbors on all sides.

Gotcha, Yeah that would pretty much be a buy the property to demo and build a $10 million place if it was in the proper, no?

Correct, we looked at a place about a mile from the ocean in Palos Verdes. The realtor said it was $550K and we were thrilled...until she told us we were
required to demo the current house and build a brand new one! No fixing up, demo, pay for haul away and build new...we passed.

Well Session, I have owned mine since Oct 2001. It just turned 17 years old Sept 11, 2018.

Nothing but fluids, tires, pipes and carb jetting. Good bike, very easy to ride and believe it or not, I have handled it like a knee dragging sport bike a time or 2 plus ridden on a 2 day trip home to Md from Daytona with a 300 mile first day and 600 mile 2nd day trip in the saddle all while it not being one of those Barcolounger Full dresser types.
The laswsuits deaths and recalls came from bikes from 91-98 models--
SPorsters
Softails
Dynas
back brake --- when applied NORMALLy for instance trail breaking in a turn or coming to a stop light ---would go FULL ON locking up the back tire--- often (in my case) causing a loss of control of the bike----
I Was LUCKY I was on a downtown street on a SUnny Sunday afternoon with very little Traffic in P'cola Fl. ---if I had been doing 80 on the interstate------ I doubt we'd be having this little talk--
Harley recalled and fix after (I heard) 3 deaths and subsequent lawsuits -- HEard that from a dealer-- and DID SEE the recall notice many years later in Cycle world-- when I was riding a SUZUKI :)

I am GLAD -- VERY GLAD you got a good one---

personally Ill never ride one again -- dont trust em--- and frankly dont have to .

It is a LOVELY bike Chili-- and I DO LIKE HARLEYS -- I waited 20 some years to GET MY OWN HARLEY --- loved that bike -- had a custom paint job -- all the bells and whistles ENGINE and performance upgrades-----(still couldnt catch my Ex Wife the Suzuki 1400 intruder--- She would laugh hit the throttle and be gone--- Id see her at the next stop light :()

I'll stick with my Tiger thank you ;)

HaHAHAHAHA good for your Wife Adrian!!:D That's one thing about Harleys they are not FAASSST machines.

It wasnt a fair fight -- 1400 cc shaft drive suzi vs 1200 sportster that weighed at least 10lbs more (rider/bike) -- I didnt stand a chance--
SUzuki 536lbs 75 hp as I recal
Harley -- 49 hp -- stock -- I think I had pushe dmine to about 60hp---and 493lbs and I outweighted the wife by 50 lbs----so

I was NEVER going to catch her--- and I had a "peanut" gas tank that only went about 90 miles before you needed gas---hut with a RIGID mount Vtwin engine after 90 miles----- you WANTED OFF for a bit---
I still think they are one of the best looking motorcycles made-- the Harley Sportster IS my mental "picture" of an american motorcycle-- hands down.

just look at it---looks like a pit bull ready to take a leg...if it only PERFORMED as well as it looked..............

Thanks esgee, I know you said you had that scare and reason why. One friend actually has put over 500k miles on various HD's and had one go over 300k. Glad u survived to ride again and be our friend.
Cool Pics of Dad, Sp8

I know of guys using them for the IRON BUTT--- just turned out to be "not my thing" -- and -- led me to keep looking for "my bike" and I eventually found it----kinda like my strat. :)

I survived but the custom paint didnt---

Set down and listen to this--------------

I was coming back that day-- from the Panama City Bike Fest -- BIG annual deal-- 4 days earlier the paint had dried on the MOST beautiful paint job ever---
2 versions of color change where laid (House of Kolor paint) -- over a black base with fishnet stockings stretched across the metal ---wait for it--
this gave the entire bike the look of lizard scales (iridescent color changing lizard scales) -- on the sides of the tank was painted in full color this logo without the "illustrated apparel crap"
Jimmy-Buffett-Caribbean-Soul-Store-Display-Sign-Advertising.jpg

and the artist added some of the iridescent color change in the lizards scales as well............it was TOO DIE FOR

and was done --- FOR FREE--- back in the day I attended MANY rally's and bike nights and bike fests and bike rides for this or that charity----lots of them--
the "deal" was -- Hank painted my bike---- I ride to events (it got a TON of attention at the PCB event) and I would hand out and leave HIS business cards for his body shop paint co. on the seat....generating business.....

I called Hank the day I got home from wrecking the bike------ I said Hank I got some good news and some bad-----
your paint got lots of looks and I handed out the WHOLE STACK of cards ya give me----"GREAT" he said---
but on the way home I wrecked the bike -----------------------------silence---------
Hank: "obviously you lived-- are you o.k.?"
YEP
Hank: "are you at home?"
yes just got here
Hank: "good because Im gonna come KILL YOU--------"

obviously he was kidding--

so -- thats that then ---- the evil little Sportster cost me a scar on my right elbow--- cost Hank a paint job........and gave me a great life story ---- to bore people on a guitar forum with DECADES later :)

I know this is not about Sp8's guitar, but about that HD not fast comment. Here was a fellow classmate of mine that raced pro on HD's. He went bar to bar with some of the best. Scott Parker, Ricky Graham and Larry Pegram.

"Hot" Rod Farris in DuQuoin, Illinois on July 2, 1995

Expert-ranked Farris, 32, of Cockeysville Maryland, crashed in turn 3 during the main event of an AMA Grand National Championship event on the mile oval at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. Farris was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local hospital, reportedly from a brain stem injury or perhaps a basal skull fracture.

From Bert Sumner: "I remember it was a typical mile National with all 18 riders going through turns 3-4 at one time, although there was some breathing room between groups. I heard a collective 'gasp' from the group near me in the pits, and saw Rodney's bike tumbling. It looked like a simple low-side crash to me. No one else went down, although Jim (Sumner, #45) went high to avoid Rodney and ended up low-siding into the hay bales in turn four. We were too busy during the red flag replacing the damage on our bike to really pay attention to what was happening with Rodney, but even before the restart we were hearing news that it wasn't good. His pit area was very emotional afterwards. I remember rumors started that Joe Kopp (#43) had ridden over Rodney's helmet and a lot of people were blaming Joe for Rodney's death. Larry Pegram (#72) wrote a letter to Cycle News to say that he was right behind Joe when the crash happened, and Joe rode over Rodney's legs, not his head. Larry went on to say that he didn't know Joe personally, but he seemed like a nice guy, and it's not right to lay the burden of Rodney's death on Joe, who had done nothing wrong. I still think that was a pretty neat thing for Larry to do, to stand up for Joe like that."

Rodney was rookie expert #9S in 1981 and wore National #92 from 1982 until his death in 1995. He finished in the Top Ten in Grand National points six times in his career, including a pair of fifth place finishes in 1993 & 1994. He holds the AMA record for most career Grand National podium finishes without a win (15).
