I have never played a real Klon but heard clips on the net of them. The closest I've come to achieving that tone which comes very very close is with the Tumnus Deluxe as well as the Arc Effects Klone. Both of these are very cool pedals I have the second version of the Klone which has internal bass enhancing switch. I basically just use it in the stock mode myself. Perhaps in a live band situation the bass switch would be kept on all the time.

BYOC has just released a new version of their discontinued Silver Pony. The new version is called... wait for it... uhm… the SILVER PONY II. This new version has an added independent (Clean) Boost circuit to go along with the Klon-style overdrive circuit. It also adds the option to switch to 3 different clipping stages. I'll leave the following link to explain it: Silver Pony 2

I ordered my SPII kit with the added option of a powder coated/screen printed enclosure, which added $20 to the kit. Grand total with the shipping was $117.

This looks like something to do in the near future. I've never had a klon so this looks to be the ticket. BYOC are quite good at upgrading cloned pedals while keeping the original circuit. Cheers

No exklusive thread. I'm just going to ride the koat-tails of this thread started by 67plexi. Kind of like a Kommunity of Klons!

What I did do today was do an A-B-C test of my 3 Klon klones: Wampler Tumnus Deluxe, Silver Pony, and the Silver Pony II. I also stacked a Mooer Rumble Drive (Hermida Audio Zendrive clone) after the Klon clones for komparison too:

I do not know what a real Klon sounds or feels like. I'm going by the videos that I've seen on the web. BYOC posted a video of their Silver Pony vs a real Silver Klon, and it was amazingly klose... real klose! That's when I pulled the trigger on the Silver Pony kit.

After a kouple of hours of messing around with these pedals I kan hear many differences between each pedal. I had the pedals plugged into my Allen Sweet Spot for a low wattage, klean Fender Blackface sound, and also plugged the pedals into my old Marshall JCM800 for that, uhm… old Marshall JCM800 sound (with the Preamp gain set at noon). The volumes were from medium to really loud in my 11 x 11 Mankave-Noise Producing-Kontrol Center. All 3 of these Klonnies are more than kapable of providing some nice overdrive, klean boost with "sparkle", and stacking well with another overdrive.

All pedals have more than enough output. With the Gain kontrols at zero, and without using the SP II's separate Boost circuit, the SP II has a hair bit more output than the original SP. The Tumnus has noticeably more output than both of the SP's. However, The SP II's Boost cirkuit when aktivated and maxed out is extremely generous. I've yet to spend much time playing with the boost cirkuit of the SP II.

All 3 have the same range on the Treble kontrol.

The Tumnus is the noisiest of the 3. Noizy enough to maybe affect recording klips, but fine for live work. The SP's are very decent in this regard.

All 3 have about the same amount of gain available. But the Tumnus Deluxe also has a toggle switch for Normal to Hot. The "Hot" of the cirkuit only comes into play when the Tumnus's gain kontrol is past 3 o'klock. Lot more overdrive and kompression at this stage. The TD had the added interaktive Bass and Mid kontrols, which I left for a flat response to keep the komparison of the 3 pedals for a more fair tone komparison. And.... the TD has a on/off push switch for the buffer, which I have not taken the time to mess with yet.

These are definitely fun pedals with a proven cirkuit to skulp your sound with. I think I might put the original SP up for sale, and let the Tumnus Deluxe and the SP II battle for supremacy in my stable for awhile... :dood:

Good review. Let me know when you part with the SP1. In the meantime, with 20/20 hindsight, do you think you would have been happy with the Tumnus Mini?

I've never played thru the Mini, but I don't see why not... :yesway:

Hell... I was pretty happy with regular Silver Pony. Sometimes it's really hard to just Keep It Simple!

Sounds like a fun day Klon ON......... I set the KTR at 50% all controls My Klone is higher gain that's not what I want it's the top end sparkle when stacking it with overdrive peddles. My most used overdrive is the Laney TI boost with the KTR I get a lot of complements from other guitarist. So I don't think it's just in my head.

Hi Gahr, yes the Vibe Machine is the one that Steve talks about. I ordered that last spring at a friend's suggestion. I really like it. I'm still learning how to use it as I never have time for experimentation. It does like single coil pickups, and to get a Trowerish sound, it needs to be first in the chain.

As for the Prince of Tone, I love it. That previously mentioned friend had been trying to get me to buy a King of Tone for ages. I've had the Prince for about two or three years now? I don't have the patience to be on a waiting list for a pedal forever. The Prince of Tone is always in stock, and I'm only interested in using as a lead boost.

Once I experiment with the KTR a bit, and try it with several of my amps, I'll see if the RC Booster will stay on the board. The RC is probably my best transparent clean boost. Before I make up my mind I'll see if the KTR is something that will stay on all the time, or just when I really need it. Since I'm more into the Hiwatt sounds over Marshall these days, I'll have to experiment quite a bit before making up my mind.

I'm very interested in the KTR but my ears go out to the Gold horse' w/ the short tail and just write it off as some kind of a loss on my electrical supply company! so I'm quite interested in your experience with it. You and Plexi got my ear, in regard in this case. I can hear that each incarceration seems to go up a ladder, so to speak, of a more refined evolution of it's sound . And I seem to always go to the gold short tail earlier version preferring the lesser refined and my touch sensitivity to validate the purchase of a 2.5 K pedal which is hard to justify. I use whatever amp fits the size and sound of a room, from Tweed Champ to JTM 45"s to Park Plexi 150 's so any insights would be helpful
 
Oh, And vibes that's a whole other subject … and there's a whole lot of products out there. My ears have the pedals from Lesley with emulations of all the different leslie cabinets with ramp up and speed variations. I have an original Tycobrahe Octavia and I prefer the Digitich Hendrix pedal version as it nails the sound even better than the original!

When I got to try out Tom's KTR, we were both floored by the sound of it. He bought it for bass. When we were messing around with it as a clean boost, or drive pedal, all the sounds were "Wow, holy cray, wow!" type sounds. It was very touch sensitive, cleaning up with a soft touch on the strings and also rolling back guitar volume.

I never tried the originals. I wish I had when they were first available, I would have bought one. For $239.99 "new, in box" the KTR isn't a bad deal. I paid almost as much for my Archer. Had I known about the KTR at the time, I would have never bought the Archer.
