Hurricane Michael...

Fingers crossed for you Sp8ctre -- Ive been through dozens of these--- (only 1 close to this big) and I can tell you -- there will be a city block GONE and 1 house that looks like nothing happened......weirdest thing that wind--- hope yours is well.

what amazes me still is how STRONG the storm stayed all the way into Georgia----there was STILL an EYE when it was 80-100 miles inland --- INTO Georgia --- amazing.

What impacts will be felt long term none can say-- I know entire families who evacuated the Keys last year who just ----simply never went back---Teachers--SHop Clerks-- Welders ---

this eats at the infrastructure and makes things even slower to "return" to normal for those areas -- I lived for a Year in Chipley Fl. just North of PC and worked there as the remote sales manager for the Panama City News Herald paper---I know the area very well.

Very sad situation indeed

One thing that will impact this disaster more than anything is how bad the Air Force Base was damaged and if they rebuild. If for some crazy reason they were to close Tyndall, Panama City would die a slow agonizing death. That base is not only the major employer, but the only one that has any real high paying technology type jobs. I know this because I tried to find employment when I retired and even with my years of training and skill set $15.00 an hour was the best out there if there were no jobs on base.

Seems to be never ending, half way into a cleanup and another hurricane hits :-(
We in Australia get similar BUT with our low population and few towns in the area affected reporting of lost life and property damage is usually minimal.
My best wishes for those suffering loss.

It makes me sick to think of all the poor people who lost everything. They are displaced, some without houses, no power for who knows how long.
And the "At least you're alive" does little to ease anyone's pain...

I found an interactive real time satellite map of the Hurricane. My house did not fare well. The chimney is down, the roof looks to be missing all the shingles in the back and I'm not
sure how much glass was blown out, but I'm guessing all of it...There are houses a block away that are nothing but sticks. I believe there were tornadoes spawned...

I read this morning the State MENTAL facility in the Panhandle at Chattahoochee was "cut off" but that all 975 patients and 325 staff seemed well as of last communication via radio and had ample supplies via helicopter drop---

NINE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE ?!?!?!?! that is a 1000 whack jobs possibly roaming around?!?!?!--- only 325 staff--- they are out numbered --- I cant imagine what Hell that must be they are going through right now---

ALso the Weather Channel reports Chris--"Major Damage" to Tyndall and that 129 mph winds recorded there w/ roof damage to every structure that is still standing many are not---and "base personnel asked to evacuate should prepare to be away for an EXTENDED TIME"

Sheesh, I don't know how that IP of 10.224.29.31 got added in, perhaps from my clip board? So the question remains, do you have insurance coverage?
