No. I moved a few around and changed the versions. This is one of the few tracks that I have that is public. All my others are private. That's because 'Whisky In The Jar' is a 400 year old Irish Folk Song and is considered public domain. You don't even have to license it to record it and sell it, unless you record Metallica's arrangement. They copyrighted their drop tuning and arrangement of the song.

Probably not. You would likely die if you saw the 65 tracks I have up on Sound Cloud - all private links - and none are listed as covers. The only reason 'Watchtower' popped up on the radar is I accidentally posted it as 'public' and as such, it was flagged.

According to the email correspondence from Sound Cloud - "the automated system found a close sonic match to the original song by Hendrix that is generally humanly impossible to duplicate to such a degree."

I'll consider that a compliment... :)

Anyways, the only thing S/C is used for is repository for tracks that the singer and other musicians can access for practice. We also use DropBox, but I've had latency issues with D/B that caused a pitch shift in the songs, so we keep using S/C.

Thanks for the reply. I would be happy to give you a better explanation. Beginning in 2010, SoundCloud has used automated content identification to protect our creators’ copyrights.

When you upload a track, our system checks your upload against a database of protected tracks that copyright owners have asked us to block. If the system detects a match, then your content is blocked, because that’s what the copyright owner has asked us to do.

We also run the system in the background to make sure that we’re picking up infringing content on an ongoing basis after upload. If the system detects a sonic match, the track will be automatically removed.

While we understand that you have performance rights to this song "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix, though Harry Fox Agency, the problem is the automated system found a close sonic match to the original recording that is generally humanly impossible to duplicate to such a degree.

In cases like this, we must assume the track contains sampled or copied material from the copyright owner and our policy requires removal of the track.

Thanks for understanding that we have to remain in compliance with copyright law.

Ok, now if you listen to the original recording, and then listen to my cover, they are night-and-day different. Yes, I was able to get a close representation of Jimi's tone and I correctly copped some of his phrasing, but that's where the similarity ends...

I don't think the computer can "hear" differences. It can only do what it is programmed to do and that is to flag for what it interprets as a copy.

For example, I once went out with a woman I met briefly about 15+ years ago for a bite to eat and a chat, get to know one another type outing for about 2 hours one evening.

The next time I spoke to her by phone, she starts in on me and says, " I did some checking on you"
My reply was ' oh yeah?" She said, do I live up a steep hill? My house is literally 7 feet from the road and it is flat.
She then says, " she drove by my place and didn't think she could get her car up the drive it was so steep" I then said I guess she got the wrong address.

Her next statement was a riot when I asked how she got my address. She said she checked her data base and it even said I had a family.
I said, " ok, I guess your data base must be wrong, because I have never married nor had kids or anything but a dog."
I believe she then claimed, her data base was correct and I basically was not to be trusted. Needless to say, I never had coffee or anything else to do with that loon after that.

Yes. technically speaking, even a cover performed at a local bar has roya;ities due, but that's difficult to enforce I would imagine....

Exactly, and I cannot blame Sound Cloud for not making an individual interpretation as to what is - or is not - a sample. However, in my case, the original Hendrix track and mine are worlds different. We were able to very nearly nail Jimi's tone with a single coil and various rack mount effects in the studio and I worked hard to nail some pf his phrasings, such as the unison bends which most covers leave out, so I think those two factors have a really similar sound.
