Start playing guitar, I started when I was 60, seemed like a great time to start for me, I was retired and I had the desire to play, and the time. Without boasting I am happy what i have accomplished in the last short 8 and a half years since I started.

I have exceeded way beyond what I thought I would achieve, and am still growing. You are never too old to start something you have always wanted to do, and I have proved that. Desire and practice, practice, makes permanent as I always say..

Job well done I would say. That's why he is such a keener!! He is still fairly new at it! :D

I started in 1978 when I was 15. As my brother had a drum kit pretty always had a band, sort of. Was used to playing with others right off the hop. Got my Goya L6-S copy that Christmas.

Always playing out with some different members over the years. I too feel like I have accomplished far more than I ever dreamt I would when I started. I like to perform and feel that every audience desreves a good show. Play like a rock star but don't take it too seriously.
 
What I find, if you want to stay good at something,, one needs to continually practice and stay in the game. As you know I do this with guitar.

But my #1 Passion is R/C flying so to stay in the game I practice on my flight sim through the winter months. Have to keep reflexes and thumbs exercised regularly..

When you have worked so hard to become good at something , you don't want to lose it. You have to stay on top of things. Like they say use it or lose it!:wink:

Honestly, I find most of it stays with me even when I don't practice. Some of the songs we play I have been playing for 35 years. I do need to work on some things for fun granted.
 
I started in 1977, jamming along to Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Buck Owen's records. My Mom showed me some open chords and gave me a Mel Bay book on learning the guitar.

I got recruited into a neighborhood kid's AC/DC cover band in jr. high school - 1978

I joined BMI and played on my first commercial recording in 1979 - playing lead guitar on my Mom's Country Gospel Album, recorded and produced at Buck Owen's Studio in Bakersfield.

By 1980, i was 15, had dropped out of high school and was working 6 nights a week in a bar band earning $125.00/week.

By 1983, i was painting Chinese menu characters on the front of my guitars and playing in hard rock bands.

I still played bass in Mom's Country Band over the years and played on a number of her studio recordings.

 
I started 1962 at age 4 Violin practice 8 hours a day private lessons for two hours twice a week 4 years solid
most kids were playing with balls I was playing a bow next Piano two years then classical guitar and vocal lessons
At 30 I took up drums great teacher I was playing drums with the big band 3 weeks into it I can read music charts
Learned most styles of music except country it's brain dead to my ears and drum beats Carol Kaye was one of my teachers
if it don't swing it don't mean a thing and Lee Ritenour when I lived in LA Lee turned me on to what amps to buy then modified
by Billy Zoom for recording 1980 moved back to Seattle my grandfather needed help with his company went to collage
Reese trained me to run the large sound systems I watched Seattle turning into the same hell hole as LA moved to Alaska
