What's on Your Workbench?

Vintage Gibson’s all have a problem where the bracing comes loose. Rather than go in and individually glue rack loose end it’s a lot better if you can open up the guitar and remove and reglue all the bracing. This insures that every brace is solid to the top and tightly coupled to the bridge vibration.

My dad's old Gibson Marauder - from 1975 according to Gibson support, based on original pot date codes. The previous pickguard was completely gone around the input jack. It was a custom guard hand-made by someone as it was already converted to have a standard size bridge humbucker, but the placement was all over the place. So a standard guard wouldn't fit - and the original bridge pickup is basically unobtainable anyway.

So I drew up a new one in CAD for standard humbuckers and had it custom made. Pickups are cheap but IMO serviceable Fleor PAF clones. Pots are 500k Bourns with a 22nF cap. It's also fully shielded. Took quite a lot of copper tape as the cavity is huge.

I'm lefty so it's not much use to myself, but nice to have something that right-handed visitors can play. Doesn't seem half bad to me.

I sold these when they were new in one of my first music store jobs.

A bit large to fit on the workbench - and with pretty "pragmatic" craftmanship.

Regarding instruments: my beloved RD bass needs an electronic extension - an adjustable bass boost (which some of my basses alread have, e.g. the Primavera).

Just finished this original design build called "Stryker" that I've been planning for years.

This fine instrument was mostly inspired by the crazy Kuthiery of our brother the mighty @Ku² (probably goes without saying.) It's frankly a dream come true and I only made one compromise. Could not fit the Bigsby to it, which is a bit sad, but it's still got tone for days, it roars, it whispers, it howls like a banshee. I literally cannot put it down, it practically plays itself! I know all of you are probably going to make me ridiculous offers but NOT FOR SALE!!!

The first one is Snakes. I built this for Patterson Hood of the Drive-by Truckers.

The second pic is one of two guitars I made for Farm Aid 3. Everyone who performed signed the top and one went to The Hard Rock Cafe and Willie Nelson got the other one. I met everyone who signed the tops that day.

Last photo, is a batch of guitars I built in Athens Ga, before I moved to Santa Fe.
