What's great about an SG?

Happy to oblige! The one in my avatar is yet another iteration…the small guard with the tenon cover attached…the bridge and neck pickups have a lot of separation…the bridge pickup is set fairly close to the bridge…it is the most “brash sounding”(in a good way) SG that I’ve got.


…and yes…all of mine have slightly different tonal qualities. I enjoy them all.

See now this gives me something to look for and some things I think I'd want to avoid. I think I like the idea of the neck pickup being closer to the bridge, but I also like the idea of the bridge pickup being a little further away from the bridge.
 
I have had an SG infatuation since my high school daze. And that was the mid 70's.
Been through a few.
What's not to like. They're the perfect rock guitar.
Like others have said, light weight, incredible upper fret access, and they just look phucking sexy!
Iomi, Zappa, Marino, a certain Allman Bro. and a little Australian guy all had a profound influence on me.
Sadly these are all gone, except the last one. Adopted by other lovers of pointy things.

Yeah, that's nice. I really don't even know why I bother with neck pickups. The only thing I use them for (unless playing clean which is what my Tele's for) is in the middle position with the neck tone rolled all the way down for a darker tone along with the bridge pickup, I never play a neck pickup alone with the gain I use.

I agree, and I also already have this so I don't know why I'm even thinking about a Jr with a P90. :facepalm:

It also has a Gibson scale conversion neck with a straight 12" FB radius...

So I decided to head up to Nashville tomorrow to check out some guitar stores and this is what came up when I googled it! Good grief, a guy could spend a week checking them all out! I guess I'll start at Guitar center and see how far I get. It's going to take me about 3 hours or so to get there from where I am now so I'll have all afternoon, but it's a big town with lots of traffic and I have chronic anxiety to slow me down so I don't know if I'll get very far. :ohno:

I am in total concurrence with this. Although I am an oddball. In no way fashion or form will I ever sound like Steve Harris if I have a P Bass, or Robert or Dean Deleo with my Les Paul or Schecter bass. I will sound like me. Although way back around 1984, I did my best Rik Emmet imitation as I played Epilogue Resolution on my 1979 Blacl Les Paul Std
 
Well, like many others said before: it is easy to handle; playing an an SG is, let's say, comfortable. Especially when You are sitting. (Once You're standing, the V is more comfortable, because of its "arm rest by design")

And i simply like the shape.

Steve,. I suspected you might have meant a modern, newer Deluxe,. Not original 19----70s Norlin versions. If you try out some SG's I just know you might find one that hooks ya good.
