What pickups do you think would be good in a Strat

I tried the cheapo Tex Mex. I modded for bridge tone control, and a cap value to allow reduction of more highs. Definitely NOT for everyone.

I've had many pickups in my 1987 Stratocaster Squire since 1988. I always come back to DiMarzio Stacked Single Coils.

Best tone, articulation and quietest operation.

Bridge is a 1992 Virtual Vintage Solo

Middle is a 1981 HS3

Neck is a 1995 YJM

All 3 have very faithful tonal quality to the original single coils, but without the noise.

I also modify the wiring to give me full tone control in all positions...

What pickups are in it now?

Seems you want to go for a thicker/crunchier tone with the rails. I’ve used, they are great, but you need to accept that you will lose the essential “Strattiness” of the tone with them. I decided I wanted my Strats to sound like Strats and went back to traditional alnico slug singles.

If what you want is a Maiden-style rock guitar it’d be hard to beat the rails. If what you want is glassy Strat tone and middle position quack stick with the stock pickups or if they are truly sucky drop in a set of traditional-style pickups.

I have a G&L Legacy now and I consider the pickups in it the best Strat style I have ever used, and that’s coming off a couple Fender Custom Shop Strats that I owned.

Hot rails are cool but they are Humbuckers and now to get the Strat tone out of a Strat a coil split is needed. My Strat came with a loose turd in the bridge and I could not live with it. I replaced everything and the pickups went to the great Lace Sensors. Coil split and a seven way switch made a great guitar even more great. I looked for a White Strat for years, only American Strats were tested. I guy in the music store handed me the best Strat I ever played and I have had many Strats but nothing like this, it was almost perfect. A 2011 Mexican Fender Stratocaster has been my favorite guitar for a long time now. My Black Strat is a copy of the Gilmore Strat, I put it back together after it pissed me off in Paris eleven years ago. I loved it but now it can't come close to the Great White Strat.

I love the pickups that are in both my Strats right now, I wouldn't even think of changing them out. I'm just thinking about buying a used inexpensive guitar for experimenting with. I saw a guy on the internet that had a Strat that had these pickups in it and was impressed with the sounds that came out of it.

all the kids are doing it!

I recently dropped a Fishman Fluence loaded pick guard in a Vintage Modified Squier Strat and it's become my go to guitar lately!
The pickups and battery cost more than the guitar...
