What can it be?

I do not doubt it, I just am wondering the mechanism for wear. It seems that it would be use of the trem, causing the strings to constantly slide through the slots. Bends do not provide much friction at the nut i would think.

I think as mentioned earlier the G-force tuners are part of the problem. They tune back and forth a lot and cause the string to sometimes move back and forth in the nut slot.

I have a brass nut on one of my Squier Starts. I find it adds to a better tone. Yngwie Malmsteen has a brass nut on his Strat.

I see your point, and don’t disagree, per se. But, I've spent a lot of time watching my string movement pretty closely while using a vibrato (Bigsby, Maestro, Fender floating bridge, etc. A Floyd doesn't count for this as it uses a lock nut). For use as a VIBRATO, not divebombing, the strings don't move across the nut nearly as much as you might think. They more or less just relax a little and tighten back up.

The movement is very minute. The strings don’t really drag back and forth over the nut as we often envision.

It is true. All brass is not the same. There are different alloys of varying hardness, friction coefficients, and wear resistance.

But, I’d have no problem trying a brass nut, if I found a good one.

Guitar, noun, a stringed instrument that Adrian plays badly.

Two girls from Florida!
Adrian, you're a champion.
After all costs, and working from the best price available here you saved me $900 Australian on the SG. Can't calculate for the T60 as this clean they just don't come up, rough ones get what I paid including all costs.

What I’m gathering from all of this is that you Aussies just live too far away!

Man, what a hike just to get a guitar!

A local shop 10 minute drive from me has the EXACT guitar in stock.
I'm happy to pay more than internet prices to support local business BUT between Sam Ash and Adrian this was a deal I couldn't walk away from.
Last year I had a Rickenbacker sent from Chicago Music Exchange after no Australian dealer could get one.
Our problem is a small population added to distance. Usually I like that combination but not when consumption of toys is involved.

BTW, I've lost the SG, my dear wife has claimed it, seriously I think I like it but not sure as she won't put it down :-(
