Don't forget to hit Gibson up for the titanium nut if it still has the brass one.
Will have to explore that, probably get my crazy swamp mate to get if required as on paper he is the first owner.
Australian import law and tax can kill a sweet deal such as this one if dealing directly with retailer. Second hand private purchase or gifts are a different thing.
Thanks for reminding me about the nut.
You'll want it for sure...the brass wears down fast. I have a titanium that Gibson sent me for the LP Doublecut I had. If it's a fit for the SG
you are welcome to it. A quick call to Gibson and they mail them right out though.

Just looking at the official Gibson presentation for this SG, it lists the nut as ... "Cryogenically treated Brass" is that a fancy way of saying BRASS or are they saying we have fixed the SOFT BRASS problem?
This strikes me as odd. 2 of my SGs have had brass nuts on them since the early '80s and neither of them has worn out.
Both guitars have been played a lot too. (One of them did 11 years of weddings, dinner dances and fund raisers.)

If you do not use the trem, I think it would take a long time for any nut to wear out.Me, too. In full disclosure, I've never used a brass nut (maybe I should try one on my Washburn!), so I have no personal experience from which to draw a conclusion. But, I've never understood the "wearing out" issue. Sure, brass is softer than steel guitar strings, but it's harder than plastic or bone.
Perhaps, brass isn't as slippery as some other materials?
Either way, the Smitster is curious...
How would a brass nut on a semi-hollow guitar sound?
Hmmmm.......

I do not doubt it, I just am wondering the mechanism for wear. It seems that it would be use of the trem, causing the strings to constantly slide through the slots. Bends do not provide much friction at the nut i would think.I've read the Gibson brass nut is inferior and soft. There are many articles and forum post talking about it and it was bad enough
for Gibson to develop the titanium nut and offer it for free...that says a mouthful.
Nice!
