03 Faded V…Manlius Asphalt (bridge), Hot Fat Goat (neck-wound to match)…Stetsbar…Crazy good stuff!!!
I've always dug it too.

I can't believe I hadn't asked myself this question over all these years. I just had to take a 2nd look to find the answer. NO Locking NUT.
So, Don, would a guitar with a Locking nut work well with a Stetsbar setup like you have, or will it be overkill for a V that stays in tune no matter how much you use the Stets?

Thanks Marc!
That’s right, no locking nut…on either of my Stetsbar equipped guitars. With no locking nut in place, the traditional nut needs to be cut well, and I’ve used some Big Bends Nut Sauce, on the nuts, on occasion…but things are dialed in well enough now that it doesn’t seem necessary at every string change anymore. Especially on the SG. I tend to use the same brand and gauge of strings on them, and they both can be set to float, or dive only, and function well under both conditions now.
Both guitars do have locking tuners though, and that may be a help…though I might think they’re not “required” for the Stetsbars. I like the locking tuners for their ease of use…always have.
As to using a locking nut…if it’s already there, or on a bolt on neck that’s going to be there(like on a partscaster build), I think it would work pretty well…and they used to sell a “fine tuner” attachment for those applications…yep…they still do…

You would want/need the fine tuners for a guitar with a locking nut.
I don’t even think about it anymore…they both work really well since the last nut touch up…

Broke out the Wildkat Royale; will be doing a couple rockabilly tunes for the reunion shows this Summer.
It doesn't show in the pic but all the binding on this one is gold sparkle: neck, body, even the F-holes.
Wonderfully tacky. And I do love P90s...
Cool! I have a very tacky 1964 Eko 500 with mother of toilet bowl back.
